A Sterak's Gage Item for Tanks - My Idea

I thought about it, and I enjoy Sterak's Gage because it is a neat and awesome defensive item, but it works much better for bruisers than tanks because bruisers often take Trinity Force to interact with the base attack damage increase. Seeing as there is now Ravenous Hydra and Titanic Hydra, and the changes to LW and it's upgrades now focusing on bonus armor, what I wanted to see was a more defensive-oriented item with the same design. Here was my idea for it.

Sterak's Totem

2550 (Same Price as Sterak's Gage), Combine Cost 800 {390 less than Sterak's Gage}

Items

Giant's Belt - 1000 Cloth Armor - 300 Null-Magic Mantle - 450

Stats

+500 health +12% base armor +12% base magic resist

Passive Grants Sterak's Fury upon taking 「 400 - 1800 」 damage within 5 seconds. (45 second cooldown) Unique – Sterak's Fury: Grants increased size, +12% additional base armor and magic resist, and a rapidly decaying shield based of 30% maximum health for 8 seconds.

There, an item to help with defensive-oriented tanks.

sterak's gage works on ad/hybrid tanks, of which there are plenty. we don't really need a new item for pure tanks, and riot hates them anyway for some reason

Exactly, but there are those who don't really benefit from the base AD increase because, again, Sterak's Gage is designed with bruisers in mind who build Trinity Force, or sometimes Iceborne Gauntlet. This item would be an excellent early item for tanks, especially if they are behind and need to optimize against overall damage versus strictly AD or AP. Sterak's Gage provides a shield, one of the only two true counters to %max health true damage (healing and shielding), so it is a good item design, just that there should be a more defensive oriented version of it.

And since it shares the same unique passive as Sterak's Gage (just with different stats involved), you have to choose between one or the other. It gives options, which is what every class should have, hence why the Marksman update includes so many different items, tanks should also get more options in how to optimize depending on the situation.

not a bad idea actually. i just dont know if the difference in base resistances is enough to make this tank specific.

otherwise i would have reduced the duration of the shield to something like 4 seconds, and instead of additional base resistances, 20% damage reduction until the shield is destroyed.

I feel that there could be another item that provides a true defensive-oriented amount of damage reduction, but the niche this item gives is a sort of temporary relief from a large amount of focused burst, the size increase is also important: it allows you to block more skillshots for the more vulnerable members of your team with a larger body and ergo larger hitbox.

The same goes for Sterak's Gage, but it's a sort of offensive and defensive item that suits bruisers just fine.

it's a good idea don't get me wrong, but it would be competing very heavily with Sterak's Gage and Riot hates pure tanks so I don't think something like this would be implemented. if it was for say ADCs or Juggernauts, they'd be much happier to help.
