Um, what? If that applies to Veigar who has infinitely scaling AP, and can easily get the most AP out of every single champion in the game, doesn't that apply even moreso to literally every single mage in the game? Seriously, if Veigar managed to rack up over 800 Ap, will buying one punk ass BV really completely nullify him as a threat?

not as a first item or a second. on veigar. probably 3rd or 4th. anyway. veigar is immobile and weak. and he has to be close to do damage and most of his damage is single target so. he has his weaknesses. its not all about doing damage. he can easily be killed. if he one shots you after buying banshees early you fed him and your behind

You buy item 3102 for the passive shield and maybe bits of health regen. As in, the "block any ability" kind of shield.

That MR probably won't do much, so when people are telling you to buy banshee's, you're buying it for that shield.

You realize that veigar is immobile and easy to harass out of lane, right? if hes stacking, thats a problem on your end.

The banshee and MR thing was actually real back when veigar was in prerework state, he had huge cooldowns and manacosts, and was really fucked up when a part of his combo was blocked and/or he couldn't oneshoot someone. He was basically the must-nuke or I'm useless champion, reflected by his 45% winrate also due to his average range and kinda weak laning phase, but now he has really manageable manacosts and somewhat spammable spells especially in teamfights, so the 'survive his combo' isn't really true anymore.
