Damage VS KDA

Hmmm, this 2/5/0 garen was just bragging about how much damage he did in the game and how even though I was 6/1/5, I had less damage than him, and how damage is bigger than kda, so I'm a terrible player, and he's better than me.

You could do 100k damage in the game, but if you kda is still 0/0/0 that doesn't mean shit. Taking down 99% of a champ's health, and letting them kill you and get alway with 1% hp just means you literally wasted your time, PLUS you fed the enemy team. So good job having the highest damage on the team, but still being the most useless player.

The sad part was that he actually believed in what he was saying.

Why does it have to end with the enemy champ killing them and getting away? Forcing them to back (even if not dead) is just as effective for taking objectives.

Therefore: I disagree with the Garen and the OP's assessment. Both matter in context.

While the higher KDA player should be expected to do more damage since they are using up more of the team's goldshare/resources, damage to champs even without KDA still matters.

Not saying damage without kills arent important, but kills without much damage is definitely worth more than damage without any kills. It gives gold to both the killer plus anyone who helped with the kill, as oppose to a bunch of damage without ANY kills, and no one gets any gold.

But they do get map pressure, which is free gold.

They get to farm without being bothered (~15 minions=a kill, plus the exp advantage) and it opens the opportunity for an advantageous teamfight during the time they back.

Since the allies didn't hear from the announcer that they died, when they lose the fight and see them at full health moving towards the fight they will assume they were just late to the fight. They've already forgotten that their ally was chunked out, and they'll blame them for the lost fight even if backing was 100% necessary.

People need to think of the bigger picture, not just the gold in the moment.

I can be a vayne farm all game barely trade, have 3 good team fights and finish the game with really low dmg compared to top and mid that kept pounding on each other all game long, I'm not sure dmg dealt say that much

There is that 'useless' poke, like ez orvlux just shooting his e on their frontline before the fight starts few times, but it doesn't really matter cause they heal it all up, or they sup with heal in her kit, so it's like dmg without any pressure to kill.

When lux uses her aoe on 5 man and deals total of 2500 dmg in one blow (just a number) and vayne focuses 1 carry and deal 1500 dmg and kills it, yeah it less dmg from lux but more EFFECTIVE dmg.

Just because you can last hit champs doesn't mean you helped your team win. I would take a 2/5/0 Garen that knocked down 3 towers over 6/1/5 anything that did nothing but chase kills.

We're talking damage vs kda. Not kda vs towers. You are way off topic here. And for your info he took down 0 towers, while I took like at least 2.

Ive seen some people to do almost nothing all game, but end up having good kda, because they are last hitting enemies. Example Lux missing everything , then using laser to kill those 1% hp enemies in tfs, that are about to die to your adcs damage anyway. Just, because this said Lux has a nice looking kda, does not mean he is playing good. Likewise lets say you have Olaf , who is 2/5/8 or something, does not mean he is playing bad, maybe he is doing his goddamn job, pressuring and zoning the fuck out of enemies carries while building tanky, and ends up dead in most fights, but wins the game for his team, because his carries free dps all game.

We're talking about a 2/5/0 garen with no towers, no assists, and the highest damage on the team. The we're talking about another champ with 6/1/5, at least 2 towers, and dragon kills, but less damage than the garen, not whatever that scenrio you cooked up was.

Another thing to tank into account is aoe damage. if garen is tank and spings around in a group of enemies, he's going to get a lot of damage if it's consistent vs skill shot based champs.

Good players make use of damage dealt, regardless of whether it killed the person or not as long as you aren't feeding kills for that damage. If you are doing 75% of your opponents health and they aren't being dove or having their tower forced down it is your team misplaying. Even later on if your team isn't cleaning up team fights or getting objectives while you win a split push that is still on them for not capitalizing on advantages.
