How do I get better?

Wundafoe··2 votes·2,835 views

TL;DR I can't focus much on anything other than csing and my opponent. (even when playing Annie :/ ) No idea where I'm supposed to be on map after laning How to handle losing and how to push a lead How to build How to identify team comps and pick accordingly? I am trying to cover all bases but how am I supposed to know what I'm doing wrong If I don't know what I'm doing wrong? Should I be linking anything to this to help? If anyone helps.

So yeah random noob rant. How the entire fuck do I get better? I've been playing this game for 3 and a half years. I've really tried to get better multiple times and when I couldn't figure it out I gave up multiple times as well. I've watched some streamers and videos and read guides and stuff but like I can't seem to apply everything in game. My attention span is shit and csing and trading with my opponent takes up almost all of it. I hate that random generic advice like "cs better" "take objectives" etc. Cool everyone knows that's the goal, but how? I have no idea where I'm supposed to be on the map after laning phase. I typically play Syndra mid (I've tried playing all roles with multiple types of champs but this is what has been constant for a long time for me), she's fun, sure she's tricky and not for beginners, but I get bored playing champs like Annie and Garen. Syndra is easy to build like most mages since there aren't that many AP options but if I were to pick another champion or role I'd have no clue what are good optimal builds and I'd just build recommended and a lot of the recommended builds are outdated.
My map awareness is still shit since all my attention is on csing and watching my lane opponent. I have no concept of team comps other than malphite and yasuo ulting together. I can't think about how a team fight is going to happen in champ select or who beats who in lanes. You would think I would acquire this knowledge after playing thousands and thousands of games. I have been bronze-silver for the past 3 and a half years depending on the season and now I'm up against plats and shit in normal games while I grind until I can get ranked again on my new account. I've been watching these people play that are considered higher elo and it's a stomp every time, I don't know how they know exactly every move and spell I will cast and how they dodge almost every spell from me. I always get out played and can't do anything in any game usually. The videos and streams and guides I've read and coaching videos just don't benefit me because I don't know how to apply this stuff to my games, I like need someone there to coach me and tell me every single little example as I play or something. I don't have any friends that play this game either nor can I get any higher elo people to take the time to help me. AND IM NOT PAYING FOR SHIT.

There's a huge difference between playing a lot of games and playing while improving. The reason you are not developing the fundamental aspects of this game is because you are most likely not trying to. You seem to have good theoretical knowledge of this game but yet its hard for you to apply it in an actual game.

You need to change your playstyle - keep learning from your mistakes and adapt with every game. If you have trouble with map awareness - keep reminding yourself to look at the minimap at specific intervals - it only takes up a millisecond to identify a potential threat. If you have trouble with skillshots - put yourself in the opposing player's shoes and think where would you move to dodge it. Just overcome your mistakes and you will improve.

Yeah you're theoretical comment is applicable to my entire life lol. I have watched some of my replays and what not but it jsut seems different to look back at it as opposed to when I'm actually playing. I think I'm just always stressed and panicky when I'm tying to poke or engage with someone or retaliate if they engage on me and I just can't think ahead.

I know i'm Bronze, But Always stick with your team, Obj > Kills. Make sure to always ping and ward, and always keep an eye on pings directed at you. I recommend playing some jungle and sticking with a select few champs to learn, Like mine was teemo, sion, and garen top lane, Now i have moved to just about knowing every lane. Never wander off from your team unless you are farming and even then always ward, When you need to split push then do it, When you notice the enemy is all mid pushing, Then back off and help them.

Yeah I try to stay with my team because I have no idea what else I'm supposed to do. Unless it's a stomp and we're going to lose guaranteed because of clear skill and game knowledge differences then i don't care anymore lol

Ok sure but why1 votes

"cs better"

Have you looked into specific videos? Stuff like that can be found on youtube. For example go into a custom game with no runes and try your best to hit as close to 100 cs only using auto's by 10 minutes. Obviously that is just one aspect, but that is what it takes.

Well, I was thinking about helping pro bono. However, you had to write this...

AND IM NOT PAYING FOR SHIT

If you think people are going to spend their valuable time teaching a 3 year veteran how to play the game for free with that kind of attitude, you must be delusional.

The only advice I'm willing to give you is to watch replays through League's official Replay System. Pay attention to how you reacted during specific parts of the game and learn from your mistakes.

I've looked at many of my replays but I can't figure out what would be a better decision to make usually especially if only a couple enemies are on the map. I skyped and played with a gold person before and they knew exactly where everyone would show up on the map after they backed or died and almost every time they were right. Like how did he know where these people are going based on what was happening at that moment? That's my biggest problem is macro I guess, I don't get how people react or play based on what's going on at the moment in the game.

Since you say all your attention is on CSing, why not jump into training mode and practice CSing? Eventually, it will become more and more automatic, and you'll have to focus less to do it right. Having high CS can make or break games, since just a bit of gold can determine when you get those crucial item powerspikes or not. Once you don't need to think as much about CSing anymore, then you can use some of that freed up mental space to focus on other things, such as map awareness, trading well, poking when they go for a minion, planning out your moves, etc.

Secondly, I would say that concerning objectives, try to capitalize on kills by getting towers/drag/baron afterward, especially if you're ahead or if the teams are even. So if you roam and kill their bot lane, then you can get their tower and drag afterward. Pay attention to where you see enemies on the map, because it'll give you an idea of where they definitely NOT are. If you have slight edge and can win teamfights but not under their tower, then rotate around taking towers/baron/drag to increase to lead.

Concerning teamcomps, I would say that since we're currently in some kind of tank meta, at least have one really tanky person to act as your frontline.

I'm only Gold V, so the amount of advice I can give is fairly limited, but I think my reasoning for these is pretty solid. To improve I would suggest going on YouTube and just searching for "league of legends game analysis" or "league of legends game commentary" and really try to understand the decision making going on. Good luck with your efforts!
