i was playing gp vs riven and pretty handily beating him, didnt kill him however. we both recall and he comes back with a measly brutalizer and pickaxe, presses r and 100-0's me. i come back to lane after respawning and shortly after she ults and trys the same thing again but he fucked up his dashes and wind slash so i killed him but had he not i would of died a 2nd time and riven would of probably started snowballing hard.. clearly fair.

riven hits a huge power spike at level 6. gangplank... does not.

it's your fault for not recognizing that.

i was level 9 or so before either went back to base, he was down a level and like 30 cs. that is when he came back with apparently the magical items that allow riven to do this. you can't even counter it either unless you are highly mobile or have a silence.

You are wrong young sir. Riven has some of the hardest scaling abilities in the game. give her farm/kills, she snowballs into an unstoppable monster. However, she is missing range....so next time maybe pick a ranged poke champion(GP might actually be fine with his Q's). Things to try: Camp her lane, and camp her HARD! As jungler, hang out top whenever Riven is in lane, get your top laner up 3-4 kills on the Riven, and they will be fine unless severely outplayed. DO NOT let Riven farm easily or scale, that will make you ff at 20.

so i have to rely on someone elses help to deal with a champion, seems like a great balance philosophy

well you counterpicked yourself. riven just beats gangplank thats how the matchup goes. pick darius if you want an easy lane.

riven beats just about any toplaner outside of a few handpicked ones (ad malphite ftw)

i fail to see how riven easily loses to a highly immobile champion like darius

because any time she tries to CS, he presses Q and she loses a huge chunk of her hp. and if she engages him directly she dies. plus he can afford to rush armor since his base damage is high enough to kill her without damage items.

Hey I'm just trying to give you advice, advice that works. No amount of crying will make Riot nerf Riven, so either use my tips or keep losing. Other people are also giving tips, just accept help.

The fact that you said camp her hard is not helping your arguement

Riven has been nerfed hard in the past for the reason that she is oppressive in lane, and she still is so that's just something you're going to have to work around. Gangplank, with his targeted high-damage poke and self-heal, should normally make Riven his personal b*tch during the laning phase.

But if you try to harass with pistol and sustain with citrus, you will run out of mana fast thanks to the mana regen nerfs, and Riven being resourceless means she suffers no such problems.

The global mana regen nerfs are the reason champs likeGaren Vladimir Rengar Renekton Aatrox are having such a resurgence in top lane usage, and unfortunately if you're using a mana-based champion against anyone who is manaless, your just going to have to focus on farming and getting them back late game, where mana drain isn't as oppressive.

Season 4 was so much more balanced.

i dont see what mana regen item you would buy on gp even prior to the nerfs

They reduced built-in mana regen early game. Your mana regen increases as you level up but it still makes for a miserable time when fighting resourceless champs that have strong early games, like Riven .

My input on the discussions going on here is that a big nerf to Riven that gave her counterplay was her base HP regen values. If you can manage to trade with her successfully you can manage to bully her out of lane. The big problem with Riven is that she can build against that weakness with lifesteal, since her extra damage procs it and will allow her to heal herself immensely. Likewise, she has a shield that for some ungodly reason scales with AD, so it mitigates focused burst/trading. Darius/Garen do so well against her because they can survive the initial brawl with Riven and then go on to deal damage post-shield/stun.

(I still think Riven is OP too. Overpowered meaning too damn strong.)

If I see a Riven pick I just go Renekton and destroy her.

Riven is an extreme balance case that punishes mistakes. Whoever capitalizes on their enemies mistake first typically wins. For Riven, her shield is a short duration with a decent cool down, combine this with her nearly non-existent health regen and the simple fact is that if she can't win trades with you, she will lose lane. Having a champ with good harass or strong trading potential will hurt Riven greatly. Chogath Darius Garen Malphite Pantheon Renekton All of these champs have strong trading potential and in the right hands can easily out trade Riven. Above all, keep on your toes and don't make mistakes, Riven is unforgiving of mistakes.
