do teammates know that you should help out the bot lane?

When I play adc it seems like nobody cares if bot lane loses are not. The enemy team 4 man ganks bot and the rest of my team just sruggs their shoulders and never comes.

Who cares if bot lane looses. If I was to invest in a lane to make sure they win, it would be either top or mid.

I am new to the game and still learning quite a bit. May I ask why this is?

right now it's because courage of the colossus makes adcs practically useless and good supports will be relevant even if they lose. On the other hand having a fed Darius or Syndra makes your team pretty unstoppable.

Botlane is the "farming for late game" role, and the meta right now is more focused on the early game. Only reason to go bot is to get two kills from one gank so it has to be a pretty easy gank to be worth the effort.
