When people talk about contribution bonuses...

You know what I'm talking about. People for awhile have been talking about getting extra IP/LP from personal contributions in games, like their KDA or cs scores, and it just leaves me thinking:

  1. This lone wolf "carry" mentality leaves roles like support in the dust, and treats them like they don't impact the game

  2. Why do people focus on things that benefit themselves (high KDA, high CS, though the latter is important) when it's objectives that benefit the team that matter?

I know I'll get downvoted to hell for expressing my opinion, but I'm starting to believe the solo "carry" mentality can lead to unhealthy gameplay habits. Sure, kills give gold, and supports don't deal the most damage, but that shouldn't be the focus of the game. The goal is to destroy the towers, secure global objectives, and destroy the enemy nexus. Nothing short of that nexus exploding will win or lose the game.

Killing the enemy is nice, but it's what you do afterwards that matters. It just feels like people forget that, and only focus on kills and gold. Stop being selfish and saying you deserve more LP for getting faf and going 20/3/12 when you only took two turrets in the entire game (yes, I've seen this before). Start focusing on the teamwork, please.

Yeah, I hear ya.

KDR is not that reliable to see performance, which is mostly what such mechanics would rely on.

And assassins are the only class in the game that really causes a Nexus to explode through a high KDR, they're the only class that rely relies on removing opponents from the map so they can take objectives.

Marksman can just take objectives while the enemy team is defending them, mages and tanks can cause so much AoE havoc they can force teams to give up objectives even if they don't kill anyone, supports tend to rely on keeping their allies alive more than killing their opponents.

So it's not even like KDR or KDA is that useful of a gauge for performance.

A 10/2 Akali vs. a 10/2 Draven vs. a 10/2 Nasus vs. a 10/2 Annie mean very different things.

I'd rather have bonuses based on, let's say... towers/turrets taken. It's neutral enough, considering there's a limited number of towers and inhibs while dragon and baron can theoretically spawn over and over. It'd benefit the entire team, and wouldn't be biased toward anyone. Promote team-wide performance, not solo carry.

Eh, that metric would still be biased too. Auto-attackers have a huge advantage when it comes to downing towers -- have you ever tried to push after a teamfight with dead carries? Tanks/supports basically swat at towers like wet noodles. Even mages have trouble downing towers quickly.

I'm talking about for the entire team, not how many towers one person alone took. It's a team effort, and while the adc excels at melting turrets, he/she'll need their team to do their job effectively. So yeah, I'm talking about an IP bonus for the entire team based on total towers taken by that team collectively.

Like when you check match history, it shows how many towers were taken on both sides, but doesn't really show who took the tower (it does if you look, but it's not broadcasted like KDA).

Oh, I see. That makes sense, then. But if you're going to count towers, why not just count team gold?

Because people will be tempted to delay games. It's not a bad idea, though.

Gold is gained passively already and the like, but towers have to be earned (either by the enemy's mistake in letting a minion wave take it, or your efforts to take it personally). I figured having a bonus earned by an outright achievement would be fun and an incentive to focus objectives over gold.

Because you cannot count on randoms- only yourself.

Then what's the point of the jungler and support?

Even if you don't want to, you still rely on your team to a point.

Because even a turnip can seize objectives if there are no enemy champions around to interfere. Try it: boot up a 1 vs. 0 custom game, and see how long it takes you to win.

Sure, it's still possible for one of your teammates to lose their lane even harder than you won yours, but if you are making enemy champions underlevelled, underfed and out of position by repeatedly killing them and not getting killed in return, you are pulling your weight.

You can still be useful to the team underlevelled and underfed. Losing lane isn't the end of the world :/

by repeatedly killing them and not getting killed in return, you are pulling your weight.

Counterpoint: if you kill the enemy over and over but take nothing afterwards, like a tower and such, is this still the case? I've seen this shit before where a team will have a huge kill advantage, but take like two towers total and wonder why they lost.

The point I'm trying to make here is that kills are only one part of the game, but it seems to hold more focus than other objectives that are much more important. Kills don't win games, but they do make it easier.

Of course it is. Because even if you don't take a tower, dead players don't take towers either. If you turn the pushing game from a 5v5 into a 4v4 by killing enemy champions, that means you are doing your share.

I am main support and KDA means a lot to me.

It tells me that I am not too reckless and that I can still help my team without unnecessarily dying.

I also find pleasure in looking at my support KDA's that are above 3.
