Question about Old Karma

Hey there Riot! I was just curious about this. Considering the fact that a whole lot of people miss Old Karma and liked her so so much, why didn't you make it so that New Karma was an entirely new champion, and Old Karma was left? It seems like this would satisfy virtually everyone. This would even work now, as people with the skin "traditional Karma" could simply be forced to only use that skin on New Karma and it would only modify her voice, but old Karma could get versions of the skins "order of the lotus" and "warden." Why didn't you do this? I assure that none of the actual Old Karma players were like "You know, I really like this version of Karma, but I want her to be reworked because I care about her viability." I HIGHLY doubt any of those devoted players could care less about how viable she was, they just wanted her to stay. _ Please_ bring Old Karma back, we all beg you so much. I regret having not heard of this game back in 2011, or else I assure you that I would literally only use that champion, and play her 24/7.

Sadly, the video doesn't portrays Karma under a realistic light but on isolated situations where she was doing good, a mistake many champion spotlights inquire in. Karma was a very underwhelming support and mid laner, her W that is used multiple times on this video had quite the mana cost and allies had no clue how to utilize it, plus the mantra-ed version was barely a little bit more movement speed.

Her Q was weaker than it is now but it had a heal that you would keep missing because no one ever played to Karma's strengths, using it correctly was a huge task and even then you'd be out of mantras for a while and it was a huge deal because her E was the one single skill that made old Karma actually viable, bomb shield was quite the strategic skill, think Lulu's E on a minion and then Q towards the enemy but way faster, with way more damage and WAY stronger shield, Karma had the biggest shield that you could have ever gotten on League of legends, and when used correctly the nuke was also awesome. This is the only skill that I actually miss on current Karma, but her Q is so good that I learned how to live with it.

The real reason why Karma was reworked though was because she had no real build paths, because in order to be useful you needed 3 stats, AP, CDR and health, and you didn't just need a bit of the three but if you focused on one of them you'd be on the loosing end. Also her passive made you always feel like you were doing something wrong, estimating her damage output was almost impossible, all you were able to know was that your skills worked better when you had 1 hp left and when you were full health your damage was really poor.

Believe me when I say that old Karma was a pain in the butt to play as and against but I can see why people miss her, mainly because in the current state of the game I think she would have been a nice asset to have, as much as I love current Karma though.

She went out of meta and had a 30~40% win rate with sub 2% pick rate (and that was when there was way less champs than now). Her kit simply didnt make sense anymore which is why they reworked her. Anyway her old skins still use her old model with the fans.

I really miss old karma i played her a lot before they reworked her the problem was riot didn't like her passive and didn't like how strong she could become and how swingy she was. But thats just my opinion. I really miss her Q and Shield hell all she needed was the root on her W then she would of been ok.

Yes i do. Basically her old passive was she got more ap on % the lower her hp was. Also her shields was WAY more powerful then live especially when you coupled it with a mantra and if you was good at spacing her mantra's out because you had 2 back then you would have a mantra everytime your shields was up also if you mantra' her Q it was like a Annie W (frontle cone) That healed you and your allies who was in it. Her W did not have a snar or heal function it only did damage or with mantra more damage and it speed up you and your allies if they walked threw it :)

old karma excised in a time when the game was very messy and the communities understand of the game was very shallow (i think phreak demonstrates that in this video) its easy for something to look good when everyone is still trying to figure out how the game works. i feel like new karma does a good job of preserving alot of old karma but in a newer more modern package that fits this iteration of the game.

q has aoe damage from her old q as well as the slow from her old w it also has a 1.2 ratio when mantraed which seems like it fills in for the ap steroid that used to be her passive.

w is still a tether spell but with clearer purpose as well as the self healing that was on her q.

e has the move speed from her old w as well as making up for the lost of aoe ally healing with aoe ally shielding (and keeping the theme of aoe in the manta even if it isn't in dmg)

the new passive helps to make up for manta no longer stacking which allows for a larger power budget cus things no longer need to be balanced around using 2 mantas back to back. manta feels like more a decisions but also stays a major part of her average rotation.

the only thing new karma is lacking from old karma is that she doesn't have the same yin and yang to her. each one of old karma's abilities had two sides to it. q was an offensive ability with defensive capabilities, e was a defensive ability with offensive capabilities, w was both a slow and a speed boost. so while new karma still does each of those things she doesn't have that "clean" yin yang to her which is probably why they moved away from that influence artistically.

i don't think there is much reason to bring back old karma as old and new continue to fill the same role, no reason to have two.
