Devourer seems to be the problem.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a very high % of champions that would be getting this item (if not all) will be auto attack oriented AD champions, right? So why is this item magic damage. It's just beyond me, it makes everyone into Jax, where you have to build dual resistances in order to try to counter them as a tank. Don't even get me started on how ridiculous this is on Yi, with devourer he deals physical, magical, AND true damage. There is no countering him. He will tear you apart.

"Just get Frozen Heart!" If only this actually made a large enough impact. Sure it'll slow his attack speed a bit, but this requires me to invest solely in armor, not health or MR, which lets him continue to tear me apart with his magic and true damage til I can build mr and health. I just don't understand why this exists, someone please enlighten me.

Edit: Why has this become a Warwick discussion, I was simply asking for clarification and opinions as to why it was magic damage. I don't care for the whole Warwick mess going on right now, I just think this item feels VERY powerful on auto attacked based champs who deal mostly physical damage. But then again, being a tank isn't in a very good spot lately anyways, so I guess that could be part of the reason why.

I like that it's magic damage. First of all, it means that champions who aren't pure AD can build it (Kayle for example). Secondly, if it was AD, the scaling would be too broken on AD JGs with crit. etc. Jinx JG would probably be OP lol. Having it be magic damage is most consistent across many champs. An AD infinite scaling item would just stifle diversity.

If it was made to simply do physical damage without offering AD, this would also hurt jungle clearing a lot. Jungle monsters have armor but not MR. I just see no reason for it to be physical as it would mean magic damage junglers wouldn't want to ever get it. It's already good on ADs without harming the AP junglers.

Your complaint about countering Yi/Fiora etc. is understandable if they're really fed but you wouldn't have much more success if it was all AD. It would actually amplify their damage even if you built armor once they get LW. Keep in mind that the magic damage on most of these junglers is without penetration. The numbers can be tweaked if necessary but I'd really hate if it became physical damage. I actually think Riot made it magical damage in order to lessen its strength and make balancing it easier.

Anyway, only WW seems to really be a problem due to Devourer. Other JGs can use it well too but lack WW's CC and their winrates reflect that. Fiora and Yi don't have ~60% winrate. :) Even when I filtered for Yi/Fiora winrates WITH Devourer on elobuff.com in Gold+, I didn't see them go past 53%.

It's currently overpowered and has brought about the end of days for Warwick. People saw it being too strong on a good duelist champion so they cried wolf (literally) and he's to be nerfed. Because of an item.

What these bandwagoners don't realize is that Yi, Fiora, and a whole bunch of other crazy powerful junglers can make use of the Devourer just as well. Yet will we see nerfs for them too? Nope.

Part of the issue (Challenging smite) has to my knowledge been taken care of (altered so that true damage occurs over three seconds instead of on hit) and to my knowledge this change has not been reverted on pbe so we shouldn't have to worry about that.

WW really needs a rework, Riot has been working on it, but it has stalled for a few reasons.

Honestly, devourer doesn't seem that bad, though I do think that it's on buy damage is a bit much, it's hardly scary to deal with.

Magic damage is there just like it was there in feral flare to make some champs that were left behind in the jungle(melee autoattackers) a threat again The problem, imho, is that the AS boost is too big. these champs are yet strongly AA-based champs and they likely have boost on AA or AS boost...devourer yet give them a strong boot to AA giving them magic damage, why give it 2 different really powerful boosts at the same time to these champs, both in the form of magic damage and strong AA boost? It just give too much power on the same item, and make it unviable other items(for example Wit which would just be completely outclassed on the damage part)

I think AS bonus on Devourer should be cut at least on half(20-25%) while remaining with the same starting magic damage on-hit
