Why does no one play zilean

Last time I saw zilean when I wasn't rolling him in aram was in bot games.

I dont' get it. Is it because if you can't land Q W Q you have no purpose or.... what?

People of lower Elos dont understand the importance of utility mages. They only want the carry hard or die trying champions.

Yeah, I actually play him a decent amount in normals and am sorta confused as to why others don't play him. Yes, he doesn't have the sheer power of things like viktor/fiora, but if he ever gets to 2-3 items then he can be stupidly annoying to deal with (a fun little build being item 3003 item 3001 item 3027 item 3157 item 3026 item 3111 )

I play Zilean a decent amount and I'd say that it's because it's really difficult to solo carry with him. In ranked, most people (midlaners) go in with the mindset that if they don't win their lane, the game is lost. Zil requires your teammates to be good, you need that 12/2/5 jungle Shyv or someone similar that can really disrupt their team, and give them your speed boost and ult. And ofc, as you said, if you miss QWQ you are worthless for the next 12 seconds or so.

It's just a combination of those kind of things.

I think he suffers from the same popularity issue as someone like say, Malphite or Ziggs. These champions are all very powerful and can be a defining factor in winning games, but they will always be crowded out by the popularity of champs like Yasuo or Lee Sin who never seem to be able to fall out of the meta.

Well in low elo he is really hard to use. For one thing most those players don't realize they have a guy on their team that can temporarily place a guardians angel on them so a lot of them don't take fights they can win cause of this or run away instead of continuing to fight. Most don't understand how to position properly or who to prioritize. Having Zilean means that your frontline can just slug it out with the enemies frontline with yours winning since you can bring back one of yours. So basically if your team sucks, then your fucked unless you some how get really fed early. This is all for mid Zilean though. I think support Zilean is in a awful spot right now in comparison to other supports. He is extremely squishy, his only damage ability usually ends up pushing the lane/stealing CS, and his utility outside his ultimate is matched or surpassed by almost all the meta supports for at least the early to mid game.

Requires a little more thinking and precise timing than other "carry supports", which makes him rather unpopular.

I mean, champions that require thought and/or teamwork are unpopular as well, so not really anything new.

Fun fact: going 45% cdr with a tear build on him gives you or an ally an almost permanent up time on E in conjunction with W

I have yet to ever run out of mana on this build item 3040 item 3165 item 3285 item 3027 item 3158 item 3157 also running meditation mastery vs merciless, but using dangerous game. Seraph's shield becomes insane, blocking upwards of 700 damage alone, if you're not running mana scaling runes, then that's like 750-775

You can sub in item 3157 for item 3222 or item 2049 because that build there is for ARAM, but of course I'll go sighstone but I hate going past item 3303 on him and just dump it in mid game

I personally don't play him, because I am terrible with timing his ult, and I also have settings set up that all the spells are self casted on me unless I click on allied champion, and since I also use quick cast, I don't always know the range of my ult. What happens in some games I end up ulting myself like an idiot instead of my ally, because I misjudged my range, because of this particular set up. Other than that I think he is a beast, I remmember playing a game where enemy had multiple carries and a Zilean ,it was legit impossible to win. They had Zilean mid, Akali top, and MasterYi jungle , with Tristana adc, all of which need to be hard focused, but every time we would focus down 1 dude he would just get revived at the last second by Zilean and we would lose every teamfight. I actually think he is one of the sleeper op champions, just lacks popularity.

Yes you are correct about all of it. I am zilean main I know how my enamys feal to get all half healthed by me in same time he can just play around others. He is OP but noone plays him still because he is one neash chempion
