New Sion Meta Nobody Plays - Why Does Nobody Play Him This Way?

Ever since I started playing league of legends, I was very interested in the champion that is Sion. Although I never got to play him pre-rework, I have found his new kit to be extremely effective, yet, I seem to see many guides to show a completely different play style than what I play. I currently have 150k+ champion points with him and play him to rank up. After going through many different builds from tanky sion, to ap sion, to full health sion, and finally my new build I have noticed a few things that work so much better than what everyone says.

First of all, his poke and bully potential. I always go e, w, q, and then max in that order which is the complete opposite of what everyone else does. But if you max e first, the pokes and bully are unreal. While e uses nearly no mana, along with starting with dorans ring (which only makes sense because e and w, which i get first, scale on ap), you can sustain in lane for a very long time. All you do from there is poke and poke until they get low enough where you then hit them with e, once that hits, ult + w immediately, after you hit, use q, then explode w, and use e if they arent dead by that point, literally guaranteed kill once you hit level six.

Secondly, the build. After playing a ton of games testing out builds, I've come to find one that really damages the enemy and leaves them without the ability to escape. (I don't always go in this order, but this is generally the order I buy them in) First I get Frozen Mallet, the damage and health it gives you helps scale both health and ad and more easily sustain and bully your enemy. Second, I go Iceborn Hammer, this item gives not only armor, but mana to be able to kill your target, and have enough mana to go roam and wreck other lanes or push your lane and get tower. Third, I get Titanic Hydra, again the health and ad it gives extremely boosts sion especially with the aoe and nice ad buff damage it gives (this is usually where he really spikes in this build). The next few items are situational, generally it would be boots (if not bought already, literally any boots work), steraks gage, and finally an item of your choice, either go with a tanky item or you can pick between black cleaver and trinity force, both are very viable choices.

This build and strategy has helped me carry multiple games including ranked ones, and not just as top sion, but also support sion with mf, P.S. sion ult and q + mf ult = gg! ;) Go ahead and give your thoughts, again there arent many sion players but I never see them going with this build, I did give it to a teammate who was playing sion and he ended up carrying and being shocked by the pure facecheck and bullying he could do all throughout the game.

That was actually the standard build after the rework. It's also why the damage on his e was gutted along with the addition of scaling mana cost. That being said its still great so long as you land your boosted e's but it's hardly a new revelation. People jut tend to see things get netted and abandon them completely.

I still haven't really tried the Doran's start on Sion (I think I'm above 130K mastery). I've tried AP builds, but it's not very satisfying. I've done the E max before (I used to max W first) and actually found it very mana draining (but I had Corrupting potion over Doran).

Due to the flat cost on his Q, it makes sense to max it first (I put my first in W to start the health stacking early). Good zoning, punishes dives, satisfying damage with AD reds.

I normally rush a defensive item first (like IBG or Frozen heart (more mana and CDR means more spells. I rush an MR item if it's a rare AP top) so I can sandbag my lane. I tend to build straight tank since my team will generally build damage and will need someone durable to lock down the enemy.

One build that I've found surprisingly powerful (and can rarely use for certain reasons) is sated devourer Sion. Get mallet, Cleaver, and titanic, boots, and a defensive item and laugh as you brawl with people and mix your spells in to keep them close and keep you alive.

I've been playing him recently and go the full tank route. Any advice/help? Cause he's really damn fun lol
