Denying S Ratings Via Surrender - Its a Thing

So, I was playing the other day and having an absolutely great game with Miss Fortune. For once, I had a good support and I had a team that was really whooping and we were all doing well. Right at the 20 minute mark, the other team surrendered and I ended 10-0-5 with an A+ and no S.

My problem is that I've noticed many times people purposely surrendering to -prevent- somebody doing well from getting an S rating. Obviously, this is something that needs to be fixed so that people can't just give up to prevent a good player from being recognized for being good. Whether Riot wants to admit it or not, there's a lot of nasty people on this game who will do anything to make your experience a lot more miserable. I say we turn the tables with something realistic and sensible.

If anybody has an A+ rating during a surrender and was obviously about to score an S had the game gone on a few more minutes, grant them that S as a result of the surrender. In my case I had very reasonable suspicion of 20-0 if not higher, and all of us had a good chance at doing well. In other words, if at 20 minutes somebody is right on the border of A+/S- - give them the S AS A RESULT of the surrender since that will make their reasoning for it moot.

On a related point I've seen a large number of games lately purposely aimed at costing people a good rating via enemy teams camping people with a significant lead in kills or assists and sometimes, people's own teammates letting them die if they have a low number of deaths. I've been fortunate enough to get an S on over 80 champions in the past six months or so, and people just giving up costing me that rating is a hell of a deterrent to try for that elusive letter. Hopefully, we can all figure out something to fix this problem!

if youre already doing well I don't think you'd lose your S rating, I think you just didn't do good enough

The fact you think you deserve an S simply because you were 10/0/5 as MF of all things just supports this idea

Your evidence is wrong but your purpose is right.

As in, it's possible to have earned an S pre-20min. I've gotten S ranks in games that I'VE surrendered at 20 minutes. It's easier sometimes, especially if the enemy team is ahead, because you'll get deaths post-20min that drop you from S (and I've made a post complaining about that issue).

Your issue is that S ranks are tilted towards the late game and away from the early game. It's not that you can't get an early S, it's that the playstyle required for an early S isn't always optimal. On some champions, mainly damage dealers, the S rank has a large component allocated towards damage dealt to champions. Except these champions build damage and they probably do 80-90% of their damage in the last 50% of the game. So if a game ends early, their damage dealt to champions stat is disproportionately lower than it is in long games even when a player didn't do well. I.e. ADCs will almost always have the most damage dealt in a 50min game, will be around the top in a 35min game, but will often be only mediocre in a 20min stomp (unless they were the only one getting fed).

The game needs to give ranks more generously pre-20, as stomps are where you often did the best. It also can't increase linearly as damage and other stats don;t.

LOL they were losing badly. They dont care about your dumb S rating. They just wanted to move on.

You're being paranoid, mate.

People surrender because they are bored playing a game they obviously can't win.

People camp players with a lead because they need to shut them down if they want to have a chance of winning the game.

Nothing to do with denying grades or griefing.

(On the side, I'm not sure you need to reach a given absolute value to get an S. It could be gold/min or damage share, or kill participation, or any other metric that isn't based on the length of the game, so you can't "deny an S" by surrendering early.)

i got a 43-0-0 on Ahri and the enemy surrendered and later when i checked my stat there was no grade at all ! i am so pissed at that coz if i had gotten an S i would have made it to mastery level 6 with AhriAhri

I looked through your match history and I think it's honestly your vision score. You are not buying enough control wards and I'm guessing the possible 1 or MAYBE 2 that you do buy are going on your side of the map somewhere safe. Purchase control wards more and place them strategically-- try not to plop them down wherever if you think they will be cleared soon as that means you're just feeding 30g to the enemy team & alerting them to the possibility of more wards nearby. Another thing I notice is you are never really denying vision. If you play support try taking the red trinket to deny vision while you go about placing your own (again, if they see you're clearing vision it's expected that you will be replacing it all with your own so try not to dump wards all in one place).

Anyway, yeah... scores aren't denied like you're thinking. It scales with the game length so actually it's harder to get S later on because at that point anyone can one combo you if they catch you out. Also if you're dead constantly because of poor vision then that's less uptime to deal damage, cs, assist with objectives...

I can't POSSIBLY believe they are surrendering to "prevent" you from obtaining anything other than more gratification from wrecking them....

Problem isn't that you can get deaths and kills afterwards to either get an S or not get an S is the fact that you won't be able to get the proper amount of cs before surrender. I've only ever been able to get like 100-120 before 20 minutes which isn't enough if you have just a decent K/D/A. You need at least 140 to guarantee an S- and like 200+ to get an S or S+.

Yea... can't possibly be simply because they're up against a 10-0 MF and getting stomped overall right?

I want to be honest.

I've already been noticing for a long time that, if you surrender, you can deny your enemies the S grade. And I Always try to do this in the matches where my team is clearly losing, because Rito gave me the opportunity to do it.

In my opinions, it's their fault if they programmed the system so badly and you can use this knowledge to ruin somebody else's grade. Maybe Rito just wanted it - maybe this is intentional.

Surrendering makes enemies gain no S grade. That's sure thing. Did they want that? No one really knows, but I suspect that they wanted.
