Is there a point in playing a tank top when the enemy can just pick a fighter and win lane easily?

Fighters generally do well versus a tank, since fighters have much higher 1v1 kill pressure both pre-6 and post-6. Tanks can survive laning phase and not give the enemy kills, but has close to no chance of solo killing the opponent unless they make a huge misplay. You could try to get jungle help, but that just means the jungler must give up pressure on bot lane. With the early game snowball meta, is it worth playing a tank top lane?

Aside from Poppy, that is. She's pretty much a fighter hybrid with all her damage, anyway.

doesnt matter if you win lane get that shit out of your head already. You can pick some random shit that counters your lane and still dont mange to shut him down. You gonna pick Fiora into my Darius? big deal i dont fk with you post 6 farm my items and run down your team and kill everyone while you try to solokill our jungler or w/e with your ult. Dont pick counters pick something that is usefull both in lane and teamfights. Gnar can get shit on go 0-20 one good R midgame wins the game for his team . same with rumble thus why they have been staple picks for years

Pretty much this. I can pick Quinn top and win lane 10/10 times but that doesn't mean anything if I can't transition well into mid-late game. Tanks are generally much more useful in a team fight scenario than fighters.

the idea of playing a tank in lane isnt to win lane and get 1v1 kills, its to not die and be unkillable later
