So if we don't have a cell phone....we can't play clash? :(

Please riot....give this more thought.......don't punish or discriminate against people just because they can't afford or for w/e reason don't have a cell phone. There are plenty of decent LOL players who will be discriminated against :( .......please make a plan "B" or something to the anti-smurf verification process so that we can all play!

edit: thanks for the tips! I just find it frustrating that people will have to jump through hoops if they don't have a cell phone just to use their free clash ticket. I know Riot is a huge company with lots of smart people working there...surely they can find a secondary way to confirm accounts for clash other than just text messaging.

I feel this. I'm of a family of poor gamers and I didn't get my own phone til I hit college a few years ago, and it was solely for emergency purposes (so it's a prepaid flip phone only receives calls and texts, we also tend to be a few years behind current games/consoles b/c we wait for the prices to go down and my 7 year old toaster can't play higher end games). I'm all for finding a more inclusive alternative. It sucks that some rewards are going to be limited to Clash, but people can still enjoy the game without participating, though I know others may feel differently. I see this primarily affecting younger players who's families are on tight budgets.

Hi all,

I come bearing solutions!!!!

  1. For those that don't own a cell phone: Ok you're poor, fair enough. You don't have any friends or family with one? Really? It's a quick process that verifies who you are. One of my clash teammates doesn't have one either. He used my wife's number and I told him the code over discord. It's not rocket science, and where there is a will, there is a way.

  2. For those with no signal. Damn that sucks. BUT, there are lots of online text programs that are free and allow for you to link your number to them so you can see your texts. Obviously avoid the dodgy ones, but when something like Skype has been doing this for years, I don't think you'll have much of a problem.

Anyone else got a problem with clash cell signup?

There's really no excuse for not having a phone. Unless you're under 18 and your parents won't let you have one. then you have shitty parents, but its not riots problem

Hello! I may be able to solve your problem. There's a website out there called TextNow (and similar websites) that gives you an online mobile phone that you can check messages just like email. I have a friend that used that.

fun fact, the anti smurf tool doesn't work, all you need is a friend to let you use his account, as you visit his house.

This is literally the one of 100 ways you can get through the system.

I don't have a cell and couldn't compete in the clash tester because of it T_T*[cass-cry]*

If you don't have a phone then use 5 dollars of your life savings and buy one, simple.

(It does cost 5 dollars)

I’ve been in a low end family since my birth. It’s a lot of work and I know your pain. But there are solutions for this specific issue which I am fortunate enough to not have.

  1. Buy a burner phone. They’re very ceap but they work for this

  2. Save up overtime.

The reason they do this is for security and to crack hard on cheaters and smurfs.

Just use a different sms program like Google Voice, no?

Prepaid phones are pretty cheap, if anything.

Honestly if you can afford to use the internet, then getting prepaid phones for $20 is just as doable.

I honestly don't see why they can't just make you put in an alternate email address not associated with the account.

I'd assume that someone in you family if you are underage have at least 1 mobile phone? And if you're not underage and live alone, dunno man how do you live without a phone(work)?

MetroPCS will give you a no contract phone for $30 per month

Guys you don't know how old the op is. Maybe they are in middle school or highschool? some parents don't believe their kids should have phones.

I hate to say it, but if you don't have a phone in 2018 in NA, you're part of a small minority that I doubt Riot cares about. Phones are dirt cheap (you can even buy a good smartphone for less than 100), and at this point they're coming close to a necessity in the workplace for communication. Data plans are optional. Having SMS confirmations for ranked gaming isnt even uncommon now days as as well. Dota 2 requires you confirm your account via sms before you can enter ranked play. I believe this is the case with CSGO as well. In Korea, you have to tie your official ID to your league of legends account.

We're just moving on technologically, and nailing down players to 1 account is part of that. Having a phone was common 5 years ago, and it's a very safe idea to base account design around it.

Do what every other smurf is doing and grab a phone number from a close friend that doesn't play league.

I really think Riot should up the restraints, Like have honor level 3.1. It's oughta be easier to to get to for just one player alone on one account, maybe 2. But for players that have more than 2 or 3? They might be playing this game nearly everyday at at every hours for 12 hours to get them up to spec.

As for the casuals that don't have at least honor 3 or even 2.2, it should still be fine, the game mode is more catered to players with a competitive spirit, all it did was push tournaments from 3rd party officials to giving it easy access through the client. No need to sign up on other websites to earn prizes just do it through the game itself.

And if you are competitive with low honor, well tough nuts, grind it and don't make an ass of yourself. It's not that hard.

But I'm certain Riot's cooking up something smart for Clash smurfs. Who knows, maybe do something like limit Clash rewards by month or season since starting next year, we'll technically have two seasons a year.
