Did Irelia really need to be buffed?

I mean, I hate to complain, but it seems like every game I play where there's an Irelia one of two things happens.

  1. She completely dominates the top lane/jungle with her true damage and self sustain.
  2. She gets completely stomped, goes 1/10/1 for example, but out of no where when she gets her Triforce, she is now suddenly 20/10/1, getting kills left and right.

I'm just...so unsure of what to really do to stop an Irelia once she gets her Triforce. The damage output is insane. You can't trade with her. Because the moment you get her below your HP % ooops you're stunned so you're taking free hits. Try to flash away, she jumps on you then slows you as she's using her ult and you're dead.

I just. I don't get it. Last game I was in, Irelia was a DC for half of the game. And she was the Jungler. HALF OF THE GAME SHE WAS GONE. Then she showed up out of nowhere and she was ramping up the assists then she just murdered us for the rest of the game. 17/7/17

After being gone for 20 minutes.

Is this really a balanced champion? Or am I missing something here?

I'm just at a loss for words with this Champion. I can stun her, CC her left and right, but nothing stops her. Once she sets her eyes on you, you are dead. Plain and simple. Those 7 deaths? It took our entire team non stop damage to kill her. But we were so weak after words her team just cleaned us up.

Just, how is that fair? I must be missing something here.

Yes, she needed the buff. Yes, she's strong, but compared to other top laners right now, she's underpowered. The buff was also VERY VERY minor, 20% AD on her Q (which, does reset, but she never maxes it first) and 10 less mana cost per rank on it as well. Very, very minor especially considering her Q is just her execute (and even pro Irelia's messed it up a lot. Look at IreliaCarriesU on YouTube, fudges his Q all the time)

Basically, it's an early game buff that only kind of translates into late game. Irelia doesn't build much AD so the AD ratio buff is to help execute minions mostly. The mana cost buff is to help her so she can farm better against hard lanes, like Renekton. She ran out of mana way too fast against those opponents and it was definitely needed to give her some leeway.

I main Irelia so here's a tip, from my playing at least, on how to counter her... Play passive, let her push to you. She won't be able to engage on you, even at level 6 with sheen or phage, because she won't be tanky enough to dive yet. Farm up and outscale her. She'll be pushed if you let her (and it's easy to let her push) and you can call for jungle ganks. She has no escapes minus Qing to an enemy (minion, usually) which is usually inward, not outward. She has to play VERY VERY well to escape unexpected ganks.
