Mages and Mana

While I'm loath to divert focus from how certain champions seen to be receiving unnecessary nerfs, I'd like to point out again that mana is incredibly limited on mages such as Orianna and Syndra right now. In extended team fight situations such as Aram's, there comes a point where you just don't have enough mana to be able to contribute anything. Even with Athene's, which hypothetically should keep me from not having spells for an extended period of time, I find myself with no options when it comes to crunch time. Riot, please don't tell me you've killed mages in extended team fights just because you didn't want them to farm using their abilities.

Anivia and swain players, how are you guys doing with mana?

For most games as a mana mage I end up building tear + athenes + morello (tear so I have enough mana that athenes isn't shit, athenes for cdr + mana regen, and morello for more mana regen and cdr). Sadly, even with a double morellos I run oom in extended fights (wasn't that supposed to be Energies drawback, losing resource and being weak in extended fights?).

Anivia: "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK"

Swain: "Well, atleast I have a Passive. But I swear to god if I hear ONE MORE PERSON who says 'Swain never builds Chalice!', I am going to VIOLATE them with my bird form!"

Anyways here's the biggest kick in the balls.

Pre-Mana Regen Nerf = Energy Champions and Mana using champions went toe-to-toe, no imbalance at all

So Riot in their infinite wisdom fucked over mana regen itemization without doing jack squat to resourceless champions!

Well, Anivia typically builds tear/chalice into RoA. Either she will regen a lot because she's always under 50% mana (athene's route) or she will have a big enough mana pool to hold off on backing (seraph's route). She feels the same as last season to be honest (not that it's any good). But then again I start flask and not Doran's; and every player has their own playstyle... some throw Qs left and right, some forego on wall 'till 8, some go 9 utility, some go 9 defense, some take mana regen runes, some don't, etc.

BTW, item 3255 is the best sustain item for Anivia! ;)

Buy item 3070 , get stacks, build item 3003 If you still have mana problems get item 3174 And if that doesn't help get this too item 3165

If your still having mana problems then you might be... i) spamming too many spells on minions ii) missing too many skill shots iii) not picking up relics in ARAM (relics spawn at 3:10 and respawn 40s after being picked up)

Anivia works fine. I build her item 3070 then item 3027 and finish item 3020 item 3003 , end game with 2700 mana and usually over 600 AP. She's better with blue buff than without, but she's quite viable already. Just don't leave your R on and never use your E unless you know it will "crit" or finish off a running enemy.

Swain really isn't in too bad of a position in terms of mana since he's one of the few mages where managing mana is actually a thing and not just a vague term for just not doing anything. It hurts his pushing and his throughput in team fights to a point, since you know you won't recover well from running on empty, but in general feels pretty okay.

It's miserable on other mages though. Health regen mechanics are pretty potent compared to general mana throughput, and a little jungler influence to cut the enemy a break can be a massive pushback right now.

Buy RoA - item 3027

Its an 'all around' item for most mages. If you need even more mana, just buy the Tear, do not complete it till almost stacked, so that you can have enough gold in your pockets for Hourglass and your boots.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I will say that I'm definitely not a fan of having to build more and more mana. I mostly play syndra, and now that I need to divert slots towards mana, my ability to delete squishies is becoming less certain, and that's without the nerfs she took to Q and E.
