A marksman-style support would be interesting

What if there was a support that contributed to their team primarily by auto attacking and/or skillshotting ally champions? This would make auto-cancelling an important skill for this support.

Maybe 2 or 3 of their skills would imbue their auto attacks with different effects like healing or speed or shield/armor buff. This would give them interesting itemization like building attack speed to stack their buffs faster or damage that would scale their heals/shields/speedups more.

As a person that plays a lot of ranged champions I'd love to see a new support fulfill this niche so I can leverage the mechanics I already have and really get into a highly mechanical support when I play that role.

Just wait for one for all Ashe with font of life on all of them. Just keep healing.

Yeah I've played some marksmen support as well. With this I'm thinking more of a true support that focuses on buffing their team over providing damage or CC. But yeah some marksmen can already be played in that role, usually if they have decent CC like ashe.

Well I do think even when Ashe is played as the ADC, people still look at her somewhat like what's suggested in this topic, a support-like marksman.

You're basically describing kayle.

Kayle's autos are only for damaging enemy champs, no?

I think I see what you're getting at. You want someone like Ana from Overwatch. Her attacks and some of her kit are dual functioning. Her attacks heal allies and do minor damage to enemies. One of her skills is a steroid for allies and an exhaust for enemies. You're actively encouraged to shoot your allies with Ana.

I could see this working for League too, though a character set up like Jhin would have been most ideal. Someone with a small magazine, to limit their capabilities since targeted healing like that would be a bit potent. It would need a fairly considerable cooldown as well, and they would honestly most likely need to be more geared towards being a caster marksman than an autoattack marksman.

Her oft forgotten passive shreds their resistances, so benefits the team somewhat without necessarily doing much damage herself (depending on how she's built). Meanwhile shes got her heal/speed up and slows, on top of her ult.

Kayle is conventionally played as a on-hit carry so people are used to rageblade/hurricane/etc, but support kayle can build raw AP or heal/shield stuff and play similar to what you describe, although with more point and click instead of skillshots.

If you want an ally AAing another ally, they'd have to build that tech pretty carefully so nothing breaks (e.g. what if they're AAing an ally while buffed by nami e), plus I'm not convinced theres a lot of significant gameplay to be gained there over just using an ability on an ally, as allies aren't trying to kite away from you most of the time.
