Suggestions to Improve "Definitely Not Dominion"
"Definitely not Dominion" is currently a toxic game mode and is also extremely boring. The reason for this is simple: the game mode is one dimensional, with control of the top node on the map being (in practice) the sole determinant of winning and losing. This is boring because taking and holding the top node is the only reasonable thing to do on the map if your team wants to win. And this is toxic, because if you have people on your team who don't help to take and hold the top node, while the enemy team works hard together to take and hold it, then you are guaranteed to lose. In other words, if four people on the enemy team work for the whole game to take and hold the top node, but only three people on your team do so, you are pretty much guaranteed to lose. This creates huge toxicity because it is very boring to simply focus on one spot on the map, so lots of players want to wander around, seek out skirmishes, have fun, which basically guarantees their team a loss if the other team is focused on winning. Then players who want to win get mad at the players who don't focus on the top node, the players who don't focus on the top node get mad at them in return, and it's a vicious cycle.
OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM is that the entire game mode revolves so completely around control of the top node.
MY SUGGESTION: Change the map so that it is vertically symmetrical, with a bottom half that mirrors the top half and a bottom node that is of equal importance to the top node in ticking down the other team's clock. This will open the map and the game mode up so that more strategies and tactics can be employed and so that winning and losing is not determined simply by whether or not you control a single spot on the map. With resources divided between two important points instead of one, the incidental aspects of the game mode like the center buff and spawning of super minions will also become more significant.
Super Awesome Mode Suggestion: In addition to changing the map to make it vertically symmetrical, with a top and bottom node of equal importance, also add the robot battle/buff mechanic from Ascension into the center of DnD game mode. Now you're playing with power!
ONE OTHER THING: There needs to be an official explanation somewhere of the game mode and how it works. The tool tips that show at the beginning of each game are not sufficient, and if you try googling it you will see that it is hard/impossible to find a clear explanation of how this game mode works anywhere on the Internet; hence, there is also much confusion among the players playing in matches, and hence much toxicity.
Ok, thanks for listening.
