What shouldn't I play toplane?

I'm currently saving ip till lvl 30, and my champion "wishlist" is to big to allow runes. Which of these champs should I cut loose from my toplane champion pool and why. Nautilus Ekko Jayce Illaoi Edit: took zed off the list Edit: rip pantheon

Zed is not a top laner. He is an assassin that can even itemize into killing tanks. If you choose to play an assassin in a part of the map where enemy squishies are the least accessible to you, while also denying your team a bruiser, tank, fighter, or juggernaut, you are creating two separate disadvantages simply by picking that champion.

Zeds ability to kill tanks also comes from his items synergizing with his ability kit. The double proc from Duskblade, and his Ultimate ability are great, but without itemizing into Giants Slayer, and stacking armor penetration, he will not be able to deal more damage than he takes, or enough to do sustained burst over the course of a laning phase, since he does not have the resistances or sustain that other top laners do have.

In that list, def not zed.

Teemo If you dont know what the damn point of playing toplaner, then dont play teemo. You will not even have no clue why you lost in the end. Like I do

Why in the world would you take zed top? he will get shat on by basically everything unless your an expert I would say cut Illoai, ekko, pantheon and zed, as their all kinda mediocre top, unless your properly accustomed to playing them

I'm going to say Zed, although I hope that you still eventually pick him up and learn him.

The reason I would eliminate him is not because he isn't good, but because he tends to be better in other positions, ... well, okay, one position, mid.

Your team will benefit better by having him in the mid lane because he is good at roaming top and bottom to assist with applying pressure to those lanes. In the top lane he will more often be stuck farming against a tank.

Then again, there are always TP plays, but you are still limiting yourself by a pretty long cooldown and requiring that you have great map awareness.

Pantheon because he wants to be a baker not a champion.

If you have never played ranked before, I would probably cut Panth. He relies heavily on his early game and ability to roam and get kills. However, if this is a smurf, I would probably drop ekko. While tank ekko is still a thing, it just isn't what it was. You are better off with the beefy guys (and Jayce) that you have. Yes I count panth as beefy because after 2-3 damage items you should be going tnak because you are starting to fall off.

Be a decent human being and don't play Illaoi.

I would say keep Naut and Jayce for sure. Naut can double as a support when you get filled bot.

Illaoi and Ekko... it's kind of your choice there. If you want an AP champ keep Ekko. If you don't really care what you have for a line-up, then flip a coin.

Nautilus is a CC heavy vanguard. He's fun for those who enjoy him. What I mean by that is that he doesn't carry on his own, he uses his CC to set people up to do the damage. Ekko and Jayce are more selfish picks, Jayce just wants to roflstomp his lane and transfer that lead into the midgame. He's kinda hard to play well, as much as I hate him. Ekko is a mobile AP Skirmisher. For these 2, I'd definetly recommend to learn some wave controll basics, it's quite important for playing them well. Illaoi's a juggernaut, she's immobile, lacks crowd controll but hurts like a motherfucker and can take a punch. Her laningphase is really strong but you might struggle in the late game, when she starts falling off. Pantheons single purpose in life is to win lane and end the game before he falls off and is a walking stun bot.

You could take a look at Poppy, she's a really, really strong champion and is not too hard to play. If you're looking for a Juggernaut, I'd recommend Darius before Illaoi, he simply functions better as a champion. Be ready to get kited though.

Darius Kled Poppy are 3 really good champions

Play ranged cancer.

If I had to cut any of them it would likely be Ekko but all of them can be effective.

Nitrabyte1/4/2017, 6:43:51 PM1 votes

I mean, their all viable but some can just be played in more matchups than others. Zed and Ekko are the most unviable out of them, the others are naturally top lane and can be played vs more matchups

Pantheon

Winning with pantheon requires that you know how to properly snowball and close out games. If you don't you get outscaled and lose.

this skill only really exists at high elo.
