Why Are Low Level Players So Toxic?

Par Xżi·4/6/2015, 4:55:12 AM·20 votes·7,684 views

My main account, SSW Cody5935, was banned due to a stupid windows update. I was in game and was not able to click the post pone button, therefore restarting my computer for an update. The process took about 5 minutes, then it took me about 3-5 more minutes to reconnect. By the time I was back, we already lost. My team reported me and I was banned for 2 weeks.

I thought, why no level up a smurf account I am planning to use for a rank team? So I went on it and leveled it up to 10. During the process of leveling it up, I found many players are so toxic it makes me want to have the power to permaban them. When I am in game all I say is "gg", "gj [insert champion here], keep it up", and "wtf, [insert champions that needs nerfing here] just instakilled me". And I get reported then get chat restrictions. BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE TOXIC PLAYERS?

There was this one game, where there was this premade trio that kept tying in all-chat I did all these things I didn't do. For example, "can you plz report hecarim, he is spamming his ping and its really annoying" and "hecarim just told me to go fk myself and he is going to rape my mom", etc. I did not say any of those things. After the game I went and cry, I am a grown man but these people's behaviors just make me so upset. I have never cried over a video game until now. I really hate toxic people.

Then 99% of the time they are just going get a chat-restriction. They just play those amount of games and they are free. Sometimes I didn't even say anything the entire game and people still report me for absolutely no reason. So my request is for Riot to bring back the Tribunal system, for it has been down almost almost 2 years and these 2 years a lot of players are suffering.

PLZ RIOT, DO THIS FOR US PLAYERS.

Edit: It seems like I need to clarify some things here. It is not bull I got banned for leaving for 5 minutes. It was a ranked game and it was a defeat. So of course, people report those that went afk.

Also my smurf (Cola Red) is now banned for no reason. I received a Leaver Buster Warning because my LOL Client kept crashing and I joined the game 5 minutes in. I then carried my team to victory using Hecacopter. I did not used the chat other than saying "gg" at the end of the game since I was on Skype with my friend, no point in typing in chat. He is on his main and we go duo bot in URF. All the games I played alone and those I played with him are URF. Everyone says it is just URF and doesn't matter if we win or lose. The gamemode is just for fun. THEN WHY AM I BANNED? I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING AND I AM STILL BANNED?

I remember back in Season 2 and 3, when I was still a lvl 10 newb. No one is toxic. When I say no one, I mean no one. All people said was "LOL" or "LMAO" or just talk about random things like our favorite anime and our favorite game other than League, etc.

Yoi got banned for two weeks because of one incident?? I highly doubt it.

When it comes to low lvl players being toxic it's not true, but the matchmaking can be very stupid so low lvl players flame more

I think a part of it is that some of them are toxic smurfs who were banned on their main. Last time I tried smurfing there was this bronze 5 leona that made the game completely unwinnable against new players while spewing sewage at us because "im a smurf so I'm so get on my level".

Also, this game is just intimidating in the early stages. It's easy to go a hundred games before you really figure out what the hell is going on, so of course kids are just gonna get confused and get mad when things don't go their way.

And I feel for you, the idiots in this game can get really depressing at times. I don't really care what some angry thirteen yearold has to say, but it does make me sad that people are just this shitty and ignorant in general.

The lower level players are toxic, because riot does not punish the right people. They rely on a very flawed system that does not work 99% of the time.

Case in point: I started a smurph account to test out a theory. before and after every game I told everyone to report me for verbal harrassment. During the games all I said was stuff like "Good job" "keep it up" "we can do it" etc. and you know what? That account got a warning after the third game of this for harrassing and verbally abusing players with the typical "we know everyone has had a bad day, etc" message.

I stopped the experiment after that, but that just goes to show that riot is not looking at player behavior, but instead relying on just reports from other players, who may or may not be exploiting the system to get rid of players who have a higher skill cap than they do. Riot needs to do something, or put in some incentives that promote positive behavior, like, champions cost 50% IP for a week if you go X amount of days without a confirmed toxicity report, etc.

I would never start this game if I was a new player with no prior knowledge of it. I smurfed a character to lvl 10, it was a horrid experience and I would never have stayed as a new player right now.

Hard Penetrator4/6/2015, 8:33:58 AM4 votes

My little theory is that high portion of smurfs are kiddos that done terribly on their "main" accounts (bombed series 0/3, lost 9matches in a row, got soloed by ad Soraka) and so they thought that if they go against lvl 1-10 they will easily carry and show everybody how good they really are.

Truth is that they are going against even better smurfs that generally kick their ass so they are even more mad and angry. Or they smash guy that don't know how to buy items 10 times in a row so they feel actually obligated to brag how superior he is.

The reason low level players (the least knowledgeable group of the entire playerbase) are so toxic is simple psychology actually. It is due to something known as the Dunning-kruger affect. They lack the understanding of the game to realize exactly how large their lack of understanding is, so they assume they themselves are somehow prodigal in skill level... This leads to them immediately shaming anybody who doesn't perform to their imaginary standards. It is why a lot of people rage.

Riot Will Ignore Your Pleas, But I Did Bump You.

Holîday4/6/2015, 6:48:29 PM3 votes

Your whole post is basically a lie. You didn't get banned for 2 weeks for one reported game, and you didn't get chat restrictions for only saying "gg , gj , wtf champ needs a nerf. "

The only thing you said that was actually true here is how toxic low level games are. That's because its full of people like you who got banned and are bringing that same behavior into low levels with new accounts

Faith Breaker4/6/2015, 6:30:42 AM2 votes

Asking someone if they could please stop feeding is a reportable offense these days too you know. It's very toxic behavior.

redniwediS4/6/2015, 6:03:07 AM2 votes

Let's clarify something real quick. Low level accounts are more likely than not to be horribly toxic. Low level players, however, are typically fine. The difference is one is leveling an account they don't care about, where as the other is learning the game.

Verxint4/6/2015, 5:40:32 PM2 votes

You won't get a 2 week ban for a single afk. I smell BS.

Salidfingers4/6/2015, 5:38:49 AM2 votes

I get told all the time i suck ass and i should uninstall. Don't let it get to you and ignore the chats.

Words i tell my friends all the time. Talking to trash will make you look crazy. Why? Well trash cannot talk back.

It's impossible to be banned for going AFK once or for 5 minutes. You only get banned for leaving or going AFK in multiple games, you only have yourself to blame.

New tribunal system bans him somehow effectively for 2 weeks for only 1 reason (implying one reason). Make new account. So many toxic players on low level. Tribunal must not be working.

Lol wut?

BeerOfRoot48434/6/2015, 7:46:35 PM1 votes

When I smurf I get flamed by low level players all the time. And not other smurfs, legit low level beginners flaming me. New players are some of the most toxic, it's so annoying. I remember I was playing Zed in a smurf game once and I was doing pretty well. Our kayle (who was a beginner) asked me what elo my main was and I said gold (this account was still gold back then). A little later in the game I made a dumb play and died when I shouldn't have and then kayle just went berserk. She started flaming me so hard, calling me a total idiot and claiming that I was a liar about being gold and that I was actually bronze 5. Meanwhile she was like 0/9. This kind of toxicity, plus the fact that new players often refuse to take any advice (even if it's helpful and non-toxic) makes low level games no fun.

It's not just low level people. Even in diamond people can act like idiots, but I must admit, your story is interesting. I didn't really run into too many toxic people when I was leveling up, or maybe I just don't recall?

But anyway, you should chill a bit. I know the toxic nature can infect anyone, but once you realize you've been infected you can begin looking to shut it down. Maybe offer some friendly advice when you're smurfing (providing the person is willing to hear it and not being an ass), joking around with both teams in less serious games, etc.

Either way, I hope you don't have any trouble with the community in the future, because I know that there are actually nice people in here.

Solarious284/6/2015, 9:53:30 PM1 votes

Lol, Idk. I'm a low level player, but I'm not toxic. XD

LeaverBuster is not capable of issuing two week bans. It never has been - the longest you can get from it is 7 days. And unless you leave ridiculous numbers of games you will only get low priority queues.

The 14-day bans are handed out manually by Riot staff for in-game behavioral issues.

Posting on an old thread? Bah, 4 years is when a league thread ripens.

I played on a alt. account on EU N&E as jungler and ganked a lee sin top a 'few' times. He did well laning phase cuz he was against a camille who had been afk, giving him a 2 level lead. I ganked him but not camp. I just stopped by since he ALWAYS had the lane pushed to camilles tower. He starts typing in all chat that i suck and camille sucks cuz she gets a camp and im a noob etc. couple of minutes later I attack him 1v1 as blue kayn, using flash and smite but not killing him. Dude tells me to suck him whilst he recalls at tower. I go back in and kills him under turret. Then he says I suck again. He had a 1/4/2 at the end of the game and I had 9/2/4 (it ended early since entire team was getting killed by fed pyke). It seems there are alot of these people. Those who simply put, are fucking pissed at you because they themselves make mistakes. But there are also those players who are like you describe. complimenting you for making good plays and such. My ally veiger proved that. That means people will hate you for their mistakes, your mistakes, some people won't hate you and others will even be friendly.

I think its because they don't know how to avoid making certain mistakes. Meaning they couln't do anything different so it's your fault for camping/ganking them, or if their laner gets fed for roaming. It's way easier to say "fuck you noob" rather than "what could I do better", especially if they lack game knowledge.

It tilted me that he could be so simple-minded (a kind way of saying fucking dumb and blaming me for his mistakes, resorting to toxicity)... That's why I came here to type [slayer-jinx-unamused]

Soda Popkillski4/6/2015, 9:41:08 AM1 votes

I've not been banned for anytime even after DCing and crashing 5 games in a row :| I don't know how that's supposed to work.

But anyways one of the reasons why they might be so toxic is how god damn fucking terrible the games balance is to new players. I mean, Master Yi? Katarina? Yeh, it's not that fun when you don't have the skill to counter them.

junglerboy164/6/2015, 2:35:25 PM1 votes

They are toxic because they learn it from the Smurfs that hate on there every living move (or they are smurfs and hate that sometimes they don't win/get beat by a "noob").

Ariel the Cruel4/6/2015, 3:06:00 PM1 votes

Denial is what your real problem is. You do NOT get chat restrictions from telling people GG and GJ.

No one disputes there are problems with jerks in this game, particularly at lower levels. What you need to do is stop using them as an excuse and start looking at how YOU can improve your interactions. The fact that you are getting punished is proof that there is a system in place to deal with bad behavior.
Risurin4/6/2015, 4:44:44 PM1 votes

2 weeks for one incident ? Someone should summon RiotLyte to look into your case! i kinda doubt only 1 incident is enough to get you banned for so long.

On another note, one of the reason people in the lower elo are in lower elo, is because of their negative attitude, so while sad, its not necessary a big surprise.

New players are "stupid," because they don't understand the game. They are accustomed to TDM and the like, where individual performance matters more than that of a team. They simply do not know how to operate in a team environment, and they don't know how important it is in order to succeed. Also, there may be a few players who are new to the whole concept of being in short matches with anonymous players, and may get pleasure out of saying nasty things without immediate repercussions.

I will be honest and say that I was the latter type of person when I began playing this game. I didn't have much experience with online gaming, besides MMOs where you can really develop a reputation and must consider how you represent yourself. I would never insult peoples' skills, because I didn't know much about the game, but I would simply say the most disgusting, grotesque things. It felt novel to me, because I am a very polite and considerate person in my daily life. I should have been permabanned. It was that terrible. 'Twas a simpler time in season 2 (I was never punished at all), I suppose, and by the time I was 30, the novelty wore off and I became more serious about the game. Since then, I've always been one of the most collected and positive players you could hope to encounter. :) Just know that some of us get off to a rough start.

However, as new players become more rare in this game, I'd assume that much of the lowbie population consists of: A. banned/muted toxic players starting again and continuing their old habits, and B. people trolling and just not giving a crap what punishments they receive on a low level account.

The mute button exists for a reason. Don't worry so much about team communication when you're just leveling up. I don't think you're a pussy for crying... hell, finding people who experience feelings in a real way on the internet is so rare these days. Just please don't take these words to heart. These people are either having a laugh (at the expense of others) or taking out aggression they carry from their crappy lives. I cried once from being flamed in the post-game lobby (I was pregnant, give me a break), and someone on the enemy team sent me a mystery gift. That moment changed the way I see this community forever. There are a lot of great folks out there, and there are a lot of bad ones. Focus on the great ones, make them your friends, and ignore the rest.

Auryiel4/6/2015, 5:18:52 PM1 votes

I can't tell if this guy is trolling or not

Celeste Benal4/6/2015, 5:27:00 PM1 votes

There is no way you would get chat restricted for not saying anything. There is no way you would get banned for 2 weeks for 1 disconnect. You are clearly leaving out a butt-load of relevant details; most likely your own toxic history.

KGBcommunist4/6/2015, 6:05:11 PM1 votes

I am a low lvl player myself and i can tell you the people that flame are usually pathetic little smurfs that are trying to dominate new players. There team starts loosing/feeding and they get mad they cant dominate there opponent due to him bieng fed. My advice? Ignore them and let them have there little rants to themselves.

JChaosMaster4/6/2015, 6:39:49 PM1 votes

Because they cant play ranked so they have to deal with 75% more script bots in there games then any ranked player. After playing 8 game's back to back with these game destroying bots I would want to start raging at anything to.
