Need adivce on learning new roles!!!

I've been playing lol since the beginning of last season and recently I've played my first ranked game and it didn't turn out so great. So after that game I really want to learn a different role since the only role I play is ADC. I have both of my ad and ap runes pages finished so are there any recommended top lane champs I should learn? My brother told me to learn Renekton, Maokai, Rumble, Fiora, Irelia, etc. Any tips you can give me? I can cs pretty well but I just know I'm not ready for ranked since the ranked sysyem is total bs.

With the introduction of the new season, I feel like the champion list that your brother gave you is very outdated. I agree with Renekton however witht he league of Crits we are in right now, the other champions just aren't up to snuff. I'll put a list of champions that will fit most playstyles / types of champions as I'm not really sure what you are looking for. Malphite, Mundo, Kayle, Yasuo, Hecarim, Lissandra, Diana, Gnar, Darius. This should cover most types of playstyles. If you have any questions feel free to add me on league and we can chat sometime, I'd be glad to help you out. Hope this helps!

only one outdated on that list is maokai, and he's been outdated for the whole of season 5.

renekton is still the lane bully he always was, and now has scaling options with the dead man's plate + the new maw

rumble is still a relevant but niche ap top

fiora is still doing fiora things. she also benefits from the new maw a lot.

triforce guinsoo's irelia is a god-tier split pushing top laner atm

I guess rumble is still playable, for sure a viable option depending on the matchup. But I don't feel Fiora really benefits from this new patch at all, she seems kind of lackluster compared to the popular picks right now (Kayle, Malph, Mundo, Yas Trynd). Forgot about Irelia, yes! She is still very powerful

just go phage into chain vest and you should be fine against the wealth of AD tops. ranged AD champs got a fat nerf to base AD and rely on crits to deal damage now, so going 4th item randiun's is pretty legit too.

Honestly? Just practice. Quit going adc all the time, try new things, get a feel for stuff. And try a bunch. Maybe do something like just using the free week champs to give yourself some variety while you feel stuff out. But if you're coming from adc, and want to learn top, try Quinn? She's a marksman so she should be at least similar to what you're used to, so you can work on learning the new lane.

I would say learn Kayle. First of all, she can go anywhere. Top? Sure. Mid? That's where most people play her. Jungle? She can do that too. Support? Its not the best, but she functions pretty well. Adc? BUILD CDR, but sure. She's one of my personal favorite champions for this reason. Second, she's a simple enough champion. You'll find that she's pretty easy to pick up, and mastering her is more about learning your own limitations and abilities than much else. Third, she's pretty much always a "good enough" pick.

EDIT While I cannot recommend Kayle highly enough I realize she isn't for everyone, but the basic idea is its a good call to learn champs that can go multiple roles and are easier to learn. Olaf, DrMundo, Lulu, Lux, Annie are all great champs for this.

Gnar could be decent you got poke and tankyness although he is not the best for the current meta do to the adc shred but he does a decent job of locking someone down if he catches you while mega. Rumble can be good but all his power is in his ult. Tryndamere might be a decent pick until they nerf warlords do to natural sustain and insane damage with crits and hes a sudo tank do to his ult.

Try out Amumu jungle. I'm a jungle main, and although Amumu is the only tank jungler I really play, the hit box on his bandage's makes him a very easy champion to learn/play. Really the only "mechanics" you need to learn for him is being able to use your bandage as an escape, like using it to grab onto a jungle monster over a wall. Just build full tank, engage, and spam your e as much as possible while your tears and cinderhulk damage do its job.

If you want a top teacher, hit me up(if i only played top id be silver easily) I specialize in bully top lanes, so i can eliminate the opponent from the game usually. Jungle is my second best, where i specialize in assassination and powerful ganks, but i know less of the matchups there.

Mid is amazing And is my secret pick, immobile burst mages are my big thing there :3

Iv wrote some mini-guides on the forums, therye out of date, but much of the information is still relevant, and some people liked them.

Support http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/GD/orEfTYAJ-tips-for-support-position-inside

This one I still had the link for, but less about position tips but a teamwork guide to help ur jg gank http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/GD/eEu3WpN2-making-your-lane-gankable-a-mini-guide-for-people-who-want-ganks

The easiest position in the game is Top (getting atleast 100 downvotes from deluded kiddies who think its super hard).

Here me out, its a solo-lane for ur team usually, and usually for the enemy team. This means only one opponent to have to concentrate on. There is only 2 real ways for the enemy jungler to gank from, and one of them is from behind your turret. Its very easy to ward against ganks in top lane.

If youve played a fair bit of ADC, transitioning to suppport shouldnt be so hard. Youre used to the duo lane, you just need to learn some sweet warding spots. How to peel, and how to poke, all while keeping your eye on the minimap more than anyone else on your team.

Mid is the most gankable lane with up to 7 angles to gank from (7th being from behind your own turret). Fortunatly the gank ease is offset by the lane being very short, meaning you dont have to run far to get under your tower. Mid also being a solo lane has little in common with top. In mid lane the champs are often 1v1 specilist that are very good about going in on a mistake, and if they can, will add YOU to their farm.

Whatever you try next, just buy items for sustain, and make good use of your pink wards and trinkets. Remember pinks now cost as much as the old stealth wards, and we get more money... BUY ONE! Play it safe, you will see many other kinds of champs in the other lanes.

If you only really play one position, youre not ready for ranked. Its foolish to think that everyone is going to step aside for you to be ADC every time.

I hate to say this to you, but that whole "The only role I play is ADC" tells me you CANT be good in a ranked game. You dont have the experience those other players do. You have that one thing you do, ADC... great, everyone else there knows how your champ works, and how theirs works, and every other champ on your team. Down to cooldowns, ranges, burst potential. You have that ONE thing you play and have to guess without first hand knowledge what they can do.

There are 5 META roles in the game, and you only know how to play one. Youre in no way ready to play a ranked match if winning to climb ranks is your goal.

I suggest you start doing a bit of guide reading, then trying out what you read. When it comes to your next match, call "fill" and take the role no one wants, or call jg, or anything. DO NOT QUE UP FOR RANKED till youve educated yourself.

I dont want to sound like Im trying to be hard on you, but most of the people who claim to main ADC are self absorbed asshat kids. More so for those that claim to play ONLY ADC. You dont want to be that person. You want to be the player that can do anything.

Read some of the WIKI, watch some champion spotlights, look at some youtube vids.

ADC mains if they can find a champ that they like, tend to transition well to TOP lane. Once youve learned to solo lane, try some mid. Save Support and Jungle for last, your team depends on you in those roles, and honestly a person who only plays one position goes into ranked without knowing how to play all 5 roles isnt big on teamwork I dont think... Save those for last, and look up more guides and videos to help you, then try to play with a midset of "Help my team" instead of "IMA CARRY THIS BITCH WOOO!"

Good luck.
