If fire can stop a backing should not a god's anger? i was trying to challeging smite a nasus under tower as trundle and I did but 1 second later he backed that is to say his animation continued and nothing was done he didn't have any barriers or shield.

Challenging smite does no damage, which is why. Damage stops backing, debuffs do not (challenging inflicts a debuff that does damage onlyif you proc it)

also there's a point in the recall like a split second before they go back where you can damage them and they'll still back
