I thought the same thing too! But Taric being Mount Targon associated has been my head canon for ages now. So I'm probably projecting a bit.

Clearly a hint since they did say Taric/Shen should be after Poppy early 2016...
Taric Reworked KIT (confirmed by his designer) is ready since a looooooooooooooong time (Around July I think) but they waited poppy out so they could do his VU too.

Actually joked about this with a friend who mained Taric (has not played League in a while) that Taric's rework might make him from Targon. Possibly being right is awesome.
