a question about skin rarity

What is the difference between a base skin, a normal skin, an epic skin, a legendary skin, and an ultimate skin?

other than just the obvious costume change, what else do they do that makes each tier different?

thanks. that's exactly what i needed.

so these are my skin shards.

mecha khazix, dark star thresh, project lucian (from the project cores), queen of diamonds syndra, debonair galio.

any advice or opinions before i start spamming random buttons?

Look them up on youtube and you can watch videos of your skin shards and all the other skins for those champs and figure out what you like and what you want. Sometimes the cheaper skins are cooler than the more expensive ones, depending on your taste. Also, special skin shards, such as skins that have been discontinued or "epic" skins, seem to have special symbols on them to indicate it.

the blue triangle? the red diamond? the yellow orb? what does discontinued mean? that you cant buy it in the store anymore or something else?

Yeah, basically. I'm not an expert and I have never seen a key to the symbols, but I noticed that special skin shards have symbols to indicate they are special. Like when I got Headmistress Fiona skin shard it had a special mark on it.

the ones that have been discontinued shows up as a green circle with like a shiled logo in the circle. When you get one of those discontinued champions skins...look at the skin shard, then go in that champion...

You will see that the skin you have in the crafting section using your essences will not show up in the current list of that champion as you scroll through them...i got a few from those Augment Caches a while back. and i gotta say, from my point of view, i think as new skins comes out some of the old fades away slowly,

Only way to get them are probly through Hextech chests or more augment chaches if they return. I got Emeral Taric just for an example, if you search your skin list in the client under taric, your not gonna see it there unless specially aquired

yes the only way to get them is through hextech or mystery gifting.

The icons in the middle on bottom indicate their tier. You can tell what tier they are by seeing how much essence they will disenchant into and how much they cost to craft. I think the red diamond is for Legendaries (1820 RP) and would be what you see on Dark Star Thresh for example.

If you really like the expensive ones it's good to hold on to it to craft it when you have enough essence; if you do not like the expensive ones it's good to disenchant it because they yield the greatest amount of essence.

The lowest tiers, if you do not need their essence, you can feel free to reroll. The tier does not affect the reroll chances in any way, so rerolling 3 ultimate shards has the same chance of getting you a 520 skin as rerolling anything else.

There is also an icon for Legacy skins. It's on the left or right corner, can't remember, but it just means that item is not always available in the Store. Some very rarely come back to the store so may be considered a really good item despite their price, so check if you actually want that item or not before deciding to disenchant or reroll it since you may not get many chances to get it again.

For your specific shards, none of them are Legacy, but Dark Star Thresh is Legendary so it's a good one to craft if you really like it, or good to disenchant if you want its essence for crafting one of the others. The others are 1350 RP and below so are good options for rerolling.
