LoL used to be like a Sports game now it's like a Fighting game

With FIFA or NBA2k, which I used to beast on the former, knowing the sport and the players went a long way; just like knowing the champs and the macro of LoL was the key to getting good. Now with champs being able to do everything and there being a ton of damage it seems like whoever can press buttons the fastest is best. Where if you aren't amazing pressing keys quick then there is no reason to play. The player numbers seem to agree with me as sports games are played by everyone and are immensely popular like league was, and fighting games are still popular but very much a niche core audience as LoL is going now as numbers dwindle.

The best meta is where there are lots of ways to have fun. Like in sports there is perimeter shooting, post play, defense, offense, playmaking, passing, crosses, being a poacher or target man, covering passing angles, or using skill to beat people on the wings or break someones ankles 1v1. League used to be like that with covering, zoning, engaging, gatekeeping, sniping, seiging, safe routes, great ganks, harrass ganks, uber positioning and timing, objective control, win conditions, matchups, counters, etc. The game plays like most that stuff doesn't matter. The masses favor sports type games over fighting games.

p.s. Having a fighting game with a keyboard mouse is stupid as hell.

NBA 2k had nothing to do with knowing the sport. You could play an entire online game without ever using subs and there were certain unstoppable animations that people would exploit. People would play full court press the entire game and use whichever team had Lebron. There was very little strategy ever used.

This is a dumb comparison. Sports games have more players because sports are more popular than any video game will ever be. Not because of any supposed strategy that 99% of the people who play sports games never use anyway.

Comparing it to a fighting game doesnt really give fighting games any justice. If it was a fighting game, people wouldnt blow up in one second, and people would have to outplay eachother instead of roll their keyboard and let the character play itself. Fighting games arent "well I'll just hit you with a bag of gold without any counterplay", because the entire genre revolves around counterplay. Maybe the macro elements of league has been dumbed down, but this shows me you know very little of the FG genre

I do know for the complex depth to matter your input execution has to be pretty damn good. If it isn't the mental chess match doesnt matter. The barrier to entry is absolutely the micro skills on the fight stick or dpad. I'm great at sports games, bad a fighters but play both.
