NA Server Location - West vs. East
Hi there,
Since I began playing in 2012 (and taking numerous breaks) I never questioned my consistent 14ms ping. Never higher, never lower. Recently I began looking into where the servers were hosted and realized I lived only a mile or two from them. (Portland, Oregon) I've played many, many games in my time (COD, CS:GO, etc.) that were hosted in the traditional locations; Phoenix AZ, West Virginia, Kansas City, and the like. But to finally find a game hosted in my city was quite the surprise. (I also play over WiFi, so my ping would likely be around 6ms~ via Ethernet)
While I'll admit I've taken my ping for granted up until now and I quite enjoy my fast ping, I wouldn't mind if the servers were moved to a more centralized location. That being said, I would also be willing to fork up some cash to keep the Portland servers and help fund a central US or East coast network.
What do you think? If you're West Coast, would you be willing to split ping 50/50 with the EST players? And if you're playing from the East, is a +/- 50ms addition to your ping a game changing issue? If you live in Central US, what is your average ping and does it affect gameplay? Does ping even matter to you? Share your thoughts below, as I'm quite interested. ^-^
