Seriously, can we talk about Soraka?

She's the first support to get the feast/famine spot, either she does really great or suck complete bananas.

If she's buffed she's cancer, her state right now sucks, let's do a mini-rework on her abilities instead of buffs?

I agree,Sona 's the most Forgotten Support i;ve played in the last 2 years since i started ... i don't think i ever felt useless with any Champion beside her till i got lvl 6... u either suck, or the enemy sucks and you're LUCKY that's it.

Heckin Support2 votes

I've been saying for years Sona needs a game change. Her kit is confusing for a support and she's not really great at one specific thing.

Riot needs to decide what direction to take Sona into. Poke support, sustain support, teamfight support, etc. I had a Rioter reply to one of my Sona threads once and he said they don't plan on giving Sona much depth or decision making abilities since she's an easy to pick up support and they don't want to change that. Sona's largely only being played by one tricks at this point

I think we can handle an increase in skill expression I'm pretty sure that's what a lot of us want

But when I'm saying it I'm crazy.

GL. I stopped barking up that tree ages ago.

"not being good at one specific thing" is sona's thing, shes a jack of all trades with clear weaknesses (Squishy and a long CD but impactful ulti), shes the only support that wants to "survive lane" and she scales hard enough that shes going to make more impact than any other support (Unless shes like 0/4) at the 3, or maybe even 2 item and boots mark.

Also, her being easy to play and more simple in that regard is part of her allure, id personally hate to see that go ;/

DoktorKaiser1 votes

Tbh Sona is much more managable as she builds really squishy and heals for just a little bit, also can't choose the target of the heal. Soraka can straight up heal for thousands of damage making the carry literally unkillable and when she goes full tank it's just cancer as the op stated.

Revert please

They won't, because if they do, that would mean they fucked up, so that will be the start of a lot of reproaches by the comunity. This is the reason why they never reverse any change.

I'd rather riot admitted they made a mistake than keeping the mistake in the game ad infinitum.

I think she should not be killing herself to heal, especially in a meta where so much damage just exists. She feels terrible in that regard, especially since they nerfed Warmogs.

Marothennan2 votes

But then she should heal less

It Hertz When IP2 votes

Or go to her very, very old concept, which was to have a W that healed way better, but with a much longer CD. You had to make a decision whether your ADC needed a heal, or whether he could scrape by on his own for a while.

Right now this whole bandaid-machinegun W that heals for tiny amounts , but is up constantly, takes all the skill out of playing her.

Spank the Fox2 votes

Except her old heal was cancerous in lane since she just became a heal battery and didn’t do shit mid-late game since you got only one heal off before the fight was over, ignoring her ultimate.

The health cost is to limit her healing “to a longer CD” but with a spammable option at the cost of your HP.

all hail revert

sad þoy3 votes

JUST REVERT HER Q!! Her old regeneration was incredibly rewarding and fair for how squishy she is, and the reasoning for her Q change was due to the fact she wasn't able to be bursted down.. now issue with that in this meta, now.

ShadWooo2 votes

And revert ult nerf! In this meta where everyone takes ignite because it deals half hp of squishy Soraka is trully useless.

option paralysis2 votes

ain't gonna happen dude, riot hates soraka... I think I had threads here for 2-3 years after the rework about soraka and her buffs nerfs, but nobody answered. I don't think riot wants soraka to be anywhere.

Linna Excel2 votes

I think she needs a new W that's decoupled from her Q. The more she gets hurt in lane, the riskier it is for her to try and trade (or heal), and that just forces her to be more passive than she should be.

I'd also revert the E so she can trade more often and more aggressively. It's on too high a CD right now and the only way to fix that is to lose the AoE effect and the root.

ShadWooo1 votes

Yes please. And while we are at it, change the E because it sucks how is everyone ignoring it because it doesn't work on combos, stasis, ga and blinks. So many times I lost just because that Lissandra ignored silence and ulted us in E zone...

CrestfallenNight1 votes

If played well she dominates. If not played well someone's not doing a good job in killing her. But im not even up to date of how she is right now. Can't recall any nerfs, though.

Mecha Incognito1 votes

I think she's probably relatively easy to fix. I've lately started writing down changes I'd like to see on various champions and I have a couple of notes for Soraka that I'd like to share and get opinions on.

Q - Higher CD early game. Buff the HoT. Reasoning: Too effective and oppressive for harass early, can just be mindlessly spammed, when it should be more carefully used to ensure the HoT for her W.

W - Reduce the flat healing by ~20%, but shields for 30% of the flat heal for 1.5 seconds. Reasoning: Stops her hiding away and spam healing, but increases her power during skrimishes/teamfights when healing at crucial moments. Also forces her to land her Q more often if she needs healing in lane.

E - Reduce base damage early, slightly increase scaling damage.

R - Seems fine to me.

So your fix is "make her a joke with no lane presence whatsoever in favor of an ever so slightly stronger late game"

Nanuk Pihoqahiak2 votes

Should a character that sits back and heals allies up also have strong lane presence?

Mecha Incognito1 votes

Well that's her problem, isn't it? That she can get through lane phase by both constantly harassing (her Q is only 5 second cooldown, and it's very strong early), undoing any mistakes in lane, and **still **turns into a late game healing monster.

Though, what would you suggest in order to keep her fairer to play against whilst not gutting her?

Also, is it too much for people that clearly disagree with it to provide some reasoning as to why, and maybe a better solution?

Deprecious1 votes

If getting one shot so easy was the only problem... but they nerfed her so hard that she is unplayable along with boosting the damage in the game to the point where picking soraka is an auto lose...

Today i got hit 350 by one auto from a 1-0 lvl 6 kai'sa, while having 700 hp

Hammermancer1 votes

Give her crit mechanic on all.her abilities

So she can peel for her adc ;)

JeaneGreene1 votes

I honestly just max Q when U play her. The damage and hot are far more impactful than killing myself.

Linna Excel1 votes

If you aren't healing with soraka, you are playing the wrong champion.

However if soraka's kit is discouraging people from healing, she's designed wrong.

Bisaknosp1 votes

feels like shes a bigger lane bully than cait atm

BLIGHTBRINGER1 votes

Does anyone else miss when good Soraka's were rewarded for hitting the middle radius of her Q which dealt increased damage? I know this isn't what she needs but that's something I just remembered.

Anyway getting back to the point yeah I agree, as someone who's been playing her for a long while to have enough experience, I can say that the reason why she's doing badly right now is because of her overall theme design and the current meta.

Soraka is primarily designed to be a Healer. So let's explore problems...

  • Point 1 - 60% of her kit is all about healing (Q: 20%, W: 20%, R: 20%) which means that more than half of her kit's power can be countered by a set of items (Bramble Vest & Thornmail, Executioner's Calling & Mortal Reminder, and Morellonomicon).
  • Point 2 - I know that the counterplay to her healing power was that she had to sacrifice 10% of her Max Health but also having a 70 Mana cost at the highest rank is a bit too much for an ability who's power effectiveness can be shread by 40% overall.

If she had any other ways of sustaining herself better, then the current % Max Health cost with a high Mana cost on top of that would be more than reasonable. But now when all she has is Wish or Redemption, she can barely save herself or her allies in this case because of this damage meta that has developed over the years.

The other option would be to remove some of the healing that she has and give her something else but that would be removing parts of what make Soraka, Soraka. So that wouldn't be a wise option because that would ruin her theme and all.

i love soraka so much, and i can tell this is true, to those saying revert her last change...please dont, before soraka use to have the tahm kench dilemma: "you want to kill soraka but she is too tanky and heal herself but you cant kill any other key member of her team because then she heal them while giving them armor and magic resist"

i feel they should shift her power to be a healing buff, they could even remove W target healing entirely and make it so allies hit by Q get a nice juicy over time healing, this let W be something entirely different that be focus to survival, maybe a "target and ally under the effect of astral infusion to heal them for X ignores grievous wounds " then have it on a long colddown

How many "mini-reworks" does it take before people realize you won't fix Enchanters with mini-reworks.

Shrek Luigi1 votes

warmogs heal bus banana-chan is still pretty g00d, but playing her like that just doesn't feel right xD

I think that her poke is the most problematic part of her kit. regardless of where its base or scaling damage are tuned, the overall consistency of it on a matchup-by-matchup basis makes it nigh impossible to feel balanced across the board. it's either an extremely-punishing zoning tool or some useless tripe to throw-down in an emergency
