Why Do I Play A Game That Does Not Let Me Choose?

I've been forced into the support role for more times than I'd like to be... and I have support as my secondary. It makes no sense that I'm playing it almost more often than my preferred ADC role now. I made a thread not too long ago about being penalized for dodging queues due to trolls. However, if your argument is that "if there exists no penalty, the system can be abused," then why is it you have no penalty for dodging a Normal queue?

If there is such a shortage of supports, we're back to the problem of them sucking to play again. This didn't feel like an issue last year, but it is one now.

I can't say I enjoy choosing to play a video game that will not allow me to play how I want to. It's already intensely stressful enough performing well in your own lane only to have the rest of your team donate a national treasury's worth of gold to the enemy team, giving you a feeling of hopelessness that is especially doubled when playing a role that cannot carry as hard as another one could. Now I see why people miss Team Builder. I hadn't been around for very long by the time that was being taken down, unfortunately.

If you could at least give us a separate queue where one chooses the current matchmaking system, and the proposed new one allows us to wait in queue longer in exchange for giving us the role we want to play at that time, that would be great. It also gives some of us what we want while still giving the others what they want. I'll wait for an actual argument against this, but with the number of players we have, I'm not under the impression that this would fail.

The downside to this was again... the teambuilder displayed what roles were lacking, and most of the time... people didnt want to support. so the teambuilder failed because almost everyone was stuck in queue waiting for a support to queue. personally i experienced a 22 minute queue with the teambuilder the one time i DIDNT want to support.

Also, as a support, if you master the art of knowing when to roam and how to help the other lanes, you effectively can turn around the game pretty hard in the early to mid game phases depending on your champ choice.

Well, first of all, a new separate queue would not be ranked by any means. So, would a lot of people choose a waiting time more than double that of normal draft to play a normal game? I don't think so personally.

This was the common argument when picking 2 roles became a thing: Support was already least desirable Any player who didn't mind playing support a reasonable amount of the time would stop playing it entirely because they'd always get it. People who were support primaries but still wanted to play other roles might end up stop playing support and people who were support secondaries or less would definitely stop playing it. It would end up making even more players forced to fill compared to before. And some others would be pushed from 50-90% support to 100% support.

And I would say it largely did that. There was a while where Riot released statistics and they argued they fixed matchmaking so you'd get your primary more than your secondary no matter what - however I don't think it's still working. I think what players complained about is true.

Now - auto fill is needed (at least with role selection - without role selection the players need to voluntarily fill in the lobby based on draft order). However they need to modify the algorithm to allow support secondaries to thrive. I think the best option is that if someone queues support secondary/fill secondary and plays a game of support, they can choose to queue for only 1 role the following game with fill protection.

I just did six support games in a row, with ADC selected as my primary.

Bumping thread for exposure.

This is how jungler's have felt since 9.2 and a lot of them since 8.10.
