Abyssal Scepter upcoming changes and Diana

Want some opinions.

Most people would argue item 3001 is a key item for Diana. According to lolking, it's the third most built item on her, behind item 3157 and item 3089.

Now the upcoming changes on the pbe look like this:

Abyssal Scepter [Currently bugged and doing no damage.] Abyssal Scepter has been reworked this cycle. Total Cost: 2500 gold Recipe: Amp Tome + Ruby Crystal + Negatron Cloak + 815g New stats & effects: +40 Ability Power +250 Health +60 Magic Resist
UNIQUE Passive:Every 4 seconds emanates a pulse dealing 80 (+5 per champion level) magic damage to nearby enemy champions and reduces their Magic Resist by 5% for 6 seconds, (stacks up to 6 times, up to 30%)

I'm curious if people think this will still be a good item on Diana. Having health is definitely a plus but does Diana really want to stay in the fight that long? Will she really be able to make use of the item? Do you think bruiser offtank diana will become a thing, or will people abandon abyssal altogether in favor of just more damage?

Diana isn't going to suffer very much from these changes.

But my dear Katarina is going to get destroyed if these changes go through.

Then that can be a good "nerf" for her. Deal with it.

Yeah, now that you mention Kat, I'm all of a sudden a fan of the Abyssal rework.

I think they mentioned providing alternative mpen item to make up for this change

For which we will have to wait at least 3 patches.

it's just like with the new BC, they totally change the niche of the item, providing a great new item for a new nich, but leaving a gap in the previous niche. For ap-assasins/bruisers, this is a huge hit. On n a tank like amumu, staying in fight for 12 sec till the max shred is reached is ok(still a bit to long imo), but on a bursty champ like Diana it simply doesn't work.

On any short-ranged sustained magic-damage dealer, this item is going to be really good, except against comps with low magic damage, where the magic resistance isn't going to be as good.

And "short-ranged sustained magic-damage dealer" includes tanks that build Cinderhulk, Sunfire Cape, Wit's End, Devourer, or whatever kind of magic-damage DPS that you want to deal through items.

Assassin-focused Diana builds will not like this item, but bruiser-focused Diana builds will probably really like this item, possibly even rush it as a first item.

Even if she stays in the fight that long, if she leads off with her spells, they won't benefit from the stacking %MR reduction. I think the new Abyssal is really going to be best on tanks (wooooo more tank meta...)

Also, you have some misinformation about the Abyssal Scepter passive.

It deals damage 40 (+ 2 per level) every 2 seconds, not 80 (+ 5 per level) every 4 seconds.

Rammus's Ult + item 3068 item 3001 = just stand there and watch the world burn around you.

Or mumu

The only reason to buy new Abyssal Scepter on Diana would be if you play her as a tank/bruiser. Which let's face it, isn't particularly spectacular build.

Overall it's a huge hit for Diana. Since she doesn't really want or need Athene... um, best bet would be something like Luden's (if you weren't using it on her yet) or Rylai.

I've never understood this mentality about Diana. With a Nashor's Tooth her passive does an AoE cleave for around 600 dmg every 2 seconds. Her Q? AoE. Her W. AoE. She might be labeled an assassin but with the right item choice she's a team fighting nightmare. If I want to delete a squishy I'm not going to pick an assassin that is 100% reliant on landing a Q to do it.

In solo queue enviroment it's better to QR-aa-WE then Zhonya and Q-aa-R again.

What I'm getting at is you need a specialized build to make any use of Nashor's, simply because Diana tends to blow up even with her shield. Either way Diana won't benefit from "-5% MR every 2 seconds", the AP is low and health by itself isn't really great either.

Nah, don't get me wrong. That's how I build Diana in 3v3 or ARAM, but not on SR.
