Hitbox. Intersecting rectangles is still the most high performant way of performing a collision check. It has drawbacks. The price we pay for a 3D engine that can run on low end systems.

Well all the champions have a circle around them which is the area where if ability touches you it applies its effect/damage to you. This shot is the definition that the leftmost pixel from jhin ult touched the backmost pixel of graves. SO since there is a touch between your champ model (that one damn pixel) and the jhin 4th shot it is consider a hit. Now the issue is the Riot want some realism eg graves can auto attack someone who is behind of a tower/minion/champion but it leaves these hitboxes blur and sometimes the abilites doesnt seem to land but they do and some other time abilities that seem to hit it doesnt ( I cant describe it this feeling i hope you can understand it). And this issue is an ancient times that last till today and now we just accept the fast that hit us and riot wont change anything.

from screenshot its not apparent, did you check the replay if jhin really aimed the 3rd and 4th shots on same spot? if he just slightly moved towards left (or your right) then it could hit because of the champion hitbox and not so precise ult projectile width. If he really aimed at same spot, then it might be bug or intent that 4th shot has wider hitbox than first 3 shots.
