My issue with Rakan

I'd like to start out by saying that Rakan is fun. Probably the most fun champion I've played in a long time. But I do have a concern about his game play and that is his audio. He talks A LOT, and it's great to listen to, but sometimes he talks at the wrong moments... such as when he's warding. He'll say things like "I'll just put that here... that's a good place... right?.. yeah..." and "Rakan, doing his job". And all of his quotes are heard by the enemy team. Doesn't that give the enemy some advantage? If the enemy bot lane knows that there's a ward in the bush closer to their turret, due to the audible evidence, and they know exactly how long that ward will last, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a 'stealth ward'? Now they know not to push for 1-3 minutes because the enemy top laner can teleport in.

Like I said, Rakan is fun, he's well designed and a very interesting character. But I think his warding audio put him and his team at a disadvantage.

i feel like riot should learn that champs need to stfu in the future. It used to be a unique trait, but now champions are having full on conversations when you're trying to just concentrate and play the game. It's annoying, and they should lengthen the time between quotes.

A lot of champions say something when they ward. At least Rakan doesn't say it globally. (Azir and twitch had a bug where they would say their warding quote globally)

Are you sure ward placement quotes are actually heard by opponents? If so, I'd expect thats simply a bug, rather than a design oversight, as many other champs have warding quotes as well that are team only.

Meddler mentioned in one of his threads that they just have bugfixes for xayah/rakan in the next patch or two (implying that there are bugs) as they still wait and see how their power levels settle, so it's quite possible warding quotes being audible to opponents is already fixed for the next patch.

The enemy can only hear his quote if they have vision of Rakan when he places the ward.

And I don't know about everyone else, but I watch my opponents closely- if they go towards a bush, I check their sightstone to see if it loses a charge. If it's a trinket ward, I just assume they warded if I don't know otherwise. Rakan's warding quotes don't give me any more information than I already look out for.

#Except annoying talk, Rakan's problem is he doesn't do anything.

He is fun and his kit looks like you are actually doing "plays" and "escapes" and such... but when you look at his stats, performance and overall feeling.. he is not good. Unless they buff him and thus overpower him.

His kit only looking good on the outside but doesn't bring much on the inside. There are champions who does what Rakan should way better.

Want better heal? You have Soraka, Nami, Janna, etc. Wanna AoE knock up? Hello Alistar. Shield? Janna, Lulu, Karma are better. Charm? Well just get Thresh, Leona or Naut who has tons of more reliable hard CC.

#Rakan is a jack of all trades that can do a lot of different things (heal, shield, hard CC), but none of it is good enough.

Edit. downvote me as much as you wish but 44% win rate with 20% play rate tells you the same :-)

...There's a fucking warding animation, if your enemies feel like paying attention. There's no difference.

That's either a bug, or the enemy had vision of him (even if it was a dying ward that revealed at the last second)

to be fair. it doesnt take a genius to figure out where wards are with simple logic. "oh the support just walked by 4 bushes? you can bet at least 1 of them is warded" and then you just apply logic to the current situation to figure out which one. of course you could have warded none of them.

also isnt there a little particle effect that crops up everytime you throw a ward out? that show the general direction of it?

Ugh, not really. When the support is gone, it's either:

A. That he's roaming

B. Is eating the honeyfruiy

C. Invading your jungle with his jungler

D. Is warding

If he's gone for a very short amount of time, it's goddamn obvious that he warded. Not need audio quotes to know that.

My assumption would be that you can only hear the VO if you have vision of Rakan, and the audio level is relative to his distance from you. If this is the case there is no extra advantage/disadvantage.

I don't like the audio parts of the game in general.

Lot of ppl just play w/o sound, so they can't hear Sion RekSai or whatnot

Simple fix. Play in my ELO where TP is only used to get the top laner back to lane. :P
