why do pros use mana immediately after leaving fountain / to leave fountain

i see scarra run out of fountain and then use W as Annie. I see

(whoever that guy is)

using Lucian's dash to dash out of fountain, even early game when it's cutting into mana a lot...

I'm curious why these people do this - their mana doesn't totally regen before they get into combat again... seems like a needless disadvantage.

Annie's should be obvious. You always want your stun charges up ASAP. It's the same reason a Sona will always charge up her Power Chord on her way to an engagement if she can (always good to start bot lane with 2 charges, so people don't know it'll be up when you next Q).

Also, when you're leaving the base as long as you use the ability while in the fountain part, you'll gain the mana back ASAP anyway. So you generally won't waste mana on your first cost.

Because the regeneration buff would still last a little while after exiting fountain, and coupling with some of your own regen you may even refill your bar by the time you get to the front line.

However it can just be a habit of arriving the lane quicker in attempt to minimise minion loss, and it's not like pros would spam their mana dry in an instant without paying attention.

Does everyone not do this? The mana regens back by the time you get back to lane. Gets you back faster for free.

As a Garen player I find it impossible since for whatever reason, I am always oom even in fountain.

A champion's mana regen tends to be greater than 1 per second early-game. Even the fastest champions with boots and MS quints/masteries take about 40 seconds to walk from fountain to the corner. If they cast one spell while walking that way, they'll tend to regenerate it before they even get to the outer turrets.

With Annie, she's building stun stacks. With Lucian, it's like rolling in Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask; it makes you go the slightest bit faster.
