In your experience what is orianna?

A burst mage?

  • a champion with short to medium range abilities designed to deal extreme amounts of damage fairly reliably but on a long cooldown. Very effective at killing key targets if able to get close enough. Syndra

An ap assassin?

  • a champion with short cooldowns and generally short range but high sustained damage potential, burst, and mobility. Very effective early game but less effective later as they become less and less reliable. Fizz

A poke mage?

  • a champion with especially long range skill shot abilities with higher then average damage. Very effective at sieging , defending and deterring, Xerath

A utility mage?

  • a champion whos kit has more then average cc or cc as well as shielding/ healing. Very effective at peeling and/or keeping someone alive. Lulu

A Pick mage?

  • a champion whos abilities are for long range instant deletion usually requiring landing a cc, into full combo and having longer then average cooldowns. Very effective verse squishy champs with minimal defenses but unreliable. Lux

A dps mage?

  • a champion whos abilities have especially short cooldowns and thus is always a damage threat in a fight.
Very effective verse single targets. Cassiopeia

An AOE mage?

  • a champion whos abilities are all or mostly all area of effect.
Very effective verse enemies that are close together. Brand

A wave clear mage?

  • a champion whos abilities allow for very quick deletion of minion waves from a safe distance. Very effective at defending turrets or when versing champions who Cannot wave clear efficiently. Viktor

Its ok for a champion to be multiple of these however I think Orianna is all of them. Higher then average total ap ratios. 4 damage abilities and damage passive. Lower then average cooldowns. Only slightly lower then average base damage. Lanes safely. She also requires constant attention to not just her model but also her ball's model which can be lost easily in the chaos or hidden in terrain. All her abilities are aoe. All have short cooldowns at max rank. She fulfills every one of these classes well if not especially well. If she hits her ult then she is guaranteed to land all of her abilities. She is a serious threat at all stages of the game. She can even burst you down when she rushes a item 1057 first item. Her ult is on a stupidly short cooldown late game considering how massive an affect is has. Even in worlds faker just spammed it on cooldown getting everyone to blow there flash or die instantly. People complain about lux's ult but it doesn't have nearly the impact.

TLDR She is by no means the most broken champ in the game but i believe She has been able to get away with too much for too long with out having any real drawbacks to picking her. Some number tweaks or some focus put into her kit is needed. Right now she is jack of all trades, Top tier of some and better then most at the rest. Your thoughts?

Tldr: Orianna beat me in lane so she needs a nerf

Everyone in the game can counter her, the ball's movement speed is an enormous weakness to her that can only be fixed by shielding allies.

This is untrue. This depends on how close or far she is from the person since she needs to be close enough to use her Q and her E only does damage if it passes through someone.

To more properly answer your question tho, Orianna is a utility/control Mage like Taliyah and Zyra. They are more about constant upkeep of consistent damage and utility than raw burst and while they CAN burst you down if ahead or you give them the chance, they typically can't or wont unless build specifically to do it, and even then doing so usually isn't optimal.

In fights, Ori spends more time just doing consistent damage throughout the fight with her Q's and W while shielding people every now and then as opposed to huge amounts of repeated burst like say Veigar or Brand, and providign disruption with her W and R.
