How to play shyvana top?
I want to try shyvana top, but not sure the best way to build her. A lot of the guide I find are really out of date. What item, runes, mysteries would I choose. Would her skill order be the same as jungle or max q/e first?

I played Shyvana on top a few times but it didnt worked too well...maybe I am just bad or maybe top lane isnt a good place for Shyvana. I feel like she has a lot of counters.
I usually build her tanky and a build for her would look like that:
(for better farming)
(works very well hit her kit and you will most likely build this everytime because you face a lot of tanks in top lane)
(pretty good item, boost your damage while offer you some defensive stats as well. I dont know how gold eficient is this item on Shyvana because she has no mana, but I like to build it, especially when I am ahead)
(with your W+ passive from this item and
you will have great map presence due your insane movement speed)
Last item could be
, especially if you grabbed BOTRK. I think you could switch it with
if the enemy got a fed ap or maybe you just wanna deal more damage.
Anyway, I am not a Shyvana top lane expert, but I enjoyed to play her and I consider
+
to be the core items.
Also, dont forget to pick
if the enemy is most aa based.
+
works very good together.
When it comes about masteries, I would suggest to pick fervor of battle keystone or grasp of the undying if you are planning to be more tanky.
Runes that I prefer:
Red: 8x AD, 1x Crit chance
Yellow: 9x Armor or 9x Scalling Armor
Glyphs: Flat/Scalling CDR or Scalling MR
Quints: AD...you can get some 1-2 AS Quints if you want, but getting 3x AD will make last hitting very easy.
I hope I helped you...good luck!
Maxing your E or W first is optimal because of either the burning damage, providing a constant threat, or your E, which allows you to duel well. You should build one or two offense items (trinity, ruined king, possibly mallet) then go tank :)
I've only played shyvana a couple times, but I'm surprised people don't do sunfire/wits combo on her more.
The thing about shyv is that some champs really punish her super hard in Lane. A swain will make your laning hell, among others
She lacks CC, so if your opponent has decent CC then you will lose lane hard. And
will make everyone's lane hell. I'm not top lane shyv, but a jg so here's my 2cent advice.
If opponent is AP he
first. - It gives AD+MR + a nice shield.
- It gives AD + Health + CDR. or
- Armor + health and make's you tanky.
etc) I would recommend tanky item over AS item. Your W does good damage for initial few lvls.Mastries, go with Grasp of undying ( as tank) or BloodLust (for AS). I find %AS is best choice compared to flat AD.

will kick in and it'll shield while your lifesteal kicks in.If going tanky.

If going AS

- This should give enough AS to stay in drag form as long as you are hitting something.
is good for anyone and everyone. If enemy team has no burst damage mazes then go for wit's end,
Shyv top is pretty meh at best. It's not that she can't, it's that she lacks CC and it's too easy for her to push the lane when she shouldn't. Also, she's more tuned as the power jungler and riot recently nerfed her dueling potential a little.
As for the build, it depends on your team's needs. I try to get at least a bork and a TF on her, but on some games, you may need to go full tank.
Ever since they changed
and started this new itemization crusade her top lane build path went to shit. She does roughly even magic/physical damage, so the armor pen from
is a wasted stat. The phage passive is great though. Since her passive naturally gives her armor/mr and her Q is an aa reset/double hit mechanic, items with on-hit damage have particularly good synergy.
is probably a good bet to rush, and the
in the build path can make for some pretty powerful trades with auto/q/tiamat being very bursty. Against champions with low mobility, shyv can control spacing pretty well with W, so you can get away without a "sticky" item. Eventually, you're going to need one though.
has a wasteful mana stat,
we discussed already,
got nerfed and I don't believe it's gold efficient; I almost never see it purchased except on niche champs, most of whom are ADCs. Personally I feel like
would be a decent go-to, because of all the health synergy with passive and titanic, but I rarely see this item on anyone when I watch high elo play, so I dunno if the cost effectiveness is just bad or what.
For skills, you should almost always max E last. It's useful for the %HP on-hit damage debuff, and leveling it doesn't improve that at all.
There's really not much to laning with shyv. Your trade pattern is pretty fixed, and will shove the lane a lot. If you have the damages to scrap with your opponent, you can bully him. If you don't, you can't, and might wind up farming with E (here a second rank might be helpful, despite what I said earlier). Once you hit 6, shoving the lane isn't so bad since your ult is a much better escape than engage tool. Remember, if you're all-inning, it's better to ult sooner rather than later; the increased resistances and W DoT help a LOT, but you lose out on a (mediocre) gap closer.
Hope this helps. Good luck! I used to play her top a lot but I think the meta really screwed top shyv.
you play her against tanks. especially mundo. shes a good tank buster. rush sunfire first. then botrk then sv.
Thanks for the advice guys, sad to here her top isn't that great. Guess I'll have to see why I can do with her.
How I play shyvanna I have found is different than a lot of people. When I get into lane I am not afraid of taking damage until I am below half because with the minion kills and building my E straight away, if they poke me, I can poke back. What i usually build first is
because it helps me farm allot in AOE then I go straight for
to aswell help me farm. In my lane I wait for my ult to go into head to head combat because I can push the push the enemy back towards my tower and use my E, then W, then spare Q for a good hit and It does allot of damage and most of the time the enemy will immediately flee and most of the time you can chase because you still have your w active. But with shy dragon form I usually spare my e because the circle doesn't indicate WHERE the damage will be dealt. It just indicates where the fire will be. Your E will explode and do a really good amount of damage in dragon form. I am still working on my full build and currently I am exploring item combos on shy.
