I have read that depending how it is used, it can be seen as a trap.

Situation 1. You are behind in lane, so you decide you just need to farm. You buy Cull to farm. Well, now the other side has damage and you have no damage. They will win every trade and you won't be able to farm anyways.

Situation 2. both of the other lanes farm slower than alistar. You know that in 20 minutes you will have no turrets and 300 cs, running to and from all three lanes faster than anyone can get there to gank you. Instead of being short 1000 gold, you have a full item instead of 4/5 of an item, no room for wards or now with a qss. Basically the master yi vs 9 scenario.

No

The issue is that the champions who would want to buy it can't because it does not help survive the laning phase and the champions who can buy it don't want it because it does not help win the laning phase.

3 life on hit sounds like it would be useful in laning...

It's very situational depending on the champion you're playing Jinx Tristana Vayne, your item spikes item 3153 item 3087 , your opponents Draven Lucian Caitlyn, your first back gold item 3133 item 1001 item 1053, your build path. Buying the item delays your early power spike in favour of a slightly larger net profit of 180. Generally if you're avoiding skirmishes or fights early.

I personally find it really good, but it is a matter of Play Style. If you want to constantly trade with your opponent, Doran's Blade is much better. If you like to play Passive-Aggressive, Cull is much better, as it offers more sustain (and 1 more AD for Poke if I remember right) than Doran's Blade gives. The bonus gold also makes it extremely good if you get all the stacks.

I would suggest you to test it on some champions, and then establish on which ones you like and on which ones you don't.

dorans only has 1 more ad, which i dont think is a big deal. The 80 health can make a difference. But if you took cull your probably a farm lane anyway.

Oh ok, I forgot which one has more AD.

Not necessary a Farm Lane, you can make it work with some poke champion comboes, like Caitlyn & Morgana or Ezreal & Karma. You seek to wear down your opponents by poking them from safe range, while also farming to heal from Cull if they ever touched you.

80 health in the Early Game is a huge deal. You have to understand that building Cull is risky and sometimes disadvantageous. It is a long way until you stack it up, and only after that point you can say it was worth buying it. When you buy it, you have to be sure you can handle your opponents.

One thing I have seen from some ADC players is buying Doran's Blade first, and Cull second. It doesn't affect your Early Game as much, but it delays your first big item.

I find cull very useful on mid varus. I usually build into ap though. If you built AD then you'd get more out of the 3% lifesteal once you are doing over 100 on your autos.

I think it really boils down to the champ and your playstyle though.

it is... but if you pick it a second item and would focus on farming to get the passive g asap instead of pvp - or, if you have a very aggressive supp/jg that would let you get last-hits (hint - wont happen).

still, if this happens... it is definitely worth it! Ofc, not on adc that is early game rekter (hi drav)..

a thing many forget about is, it does not have lifesteal but life on hit; also straight att damage.. - it does not have any items built from it either.. so, ahem, bot lane ap meta!
