Reset MMR and Ranks
The current way MMR and Ranks are calculated creates VOIDS at the top and bottom. No one at the bottom can go up, no one at the top can go down. This would be somewhat acceptable if it had to do with people skill. It does not. It happens to be much more to do with how RIOT has done MMR, prelims and series.
At current, MMR determines how quickly you can advance through a ranking. This means that if person A has an MMR above person B then they are able to rank up faster than them. This is true EVEN if they play the exact same games. This creates ELO hell and is specifically worse for newcomers. As a new player, you go into ranked and pretty much lose your first 30 games. This really relates to inexperience and being new to the game. They then start winning. It takes them say 15 games to get to the next rank. If another person person who knows the game already goes into the same rank they are, and plays the EXACT same 15 games, they probably go up 2 ranks, not one. Because their MMR is higher. This penalizes past performance and minimizes current performance and is my main qualm with MMR.
By Resetting Rank and MMR, it accomplishes two things. First, it addresses the previous issue and allows for everyone (preferably once per season) to be on the same playing field. They ACTUALLY have the same chance to advance, same ability to improve or fall behind based on their play and we create a ranking that isn't based on what people did years ago. Secondly, it would prove a HUGE benefit to the community. At current, bronzies only fight bronzies... maybe the occasional silver (with very few exceptions). This perpetuates poor play, impossible meta configurations and general absurdity which some people get lucky enough to overcome but mostly the people who want to advance are just frustrated at every level. By Resetting ranks and MMRs once per season the highest ranking players may be paired with those who are absolutely terrible. This ISN'T a bad thing. This exposes them to superior play styles, strats and skill levels. Without such knowledge, it's almost absurd to suggest that a player would be able to push into higher ranks on their own. For those of you who might say that as you rank up you get exposed to these players, it is simply not true. The statistical probability just isn't there. There's nothing in Ranked to suggest that you're winning because you're good or losing because your bad. Mostly, people win or lose because they fail to understand the game at a basic level and I think seeing better players would benefit the community.
That's my two cents, please vote it down like normal...
