What is with Silver?

Maybe its just me but I feel like every game is just whoever has a smurf wins. The players I am playing against in Silver II are nothing like the players I played vs in Silver IV. I feel like I either get stomped in a game or the enemy gets stomped, very few of my games are close at all. The skill gap feels insane to me for some reason. Again, it may just be a bad streak but is anyone else in this ELO noticing this?

  1. How do you identify a smurf?
  2. It's silver so most players are bad, and likely don't know how to play appropriately against someone who is snowballing (I know since I'm there).
  3. I've been all over Silver and Silver 4 feels pretty much the same as Silver 2 (hardstuck silver btw). How many games have you 'noticed this' since I haven't noticed a prevalence difference between 4 and 2?

Silver is where the majority of the playerbase is. It's also where people go on "auto pilot" in regards to their skill progression and where it's easy to get stuck for a number of personally inflicted reasons; such as skill plateaus where in your natural talent is no longer sufficient and you have to develop your skills further through practice and conscious effort, people start to think that "time investment translates into a skill increase while ignoring things like consistency in their playing, and finally, most people are apt to blame others before ever daring to turn the critical eye on themselves.

In short, it's the majority of the playerbase and most people don't understand on a fundamental, self aware level that while this is a video game designed to be played for fun, RANKED is a competitive and people have the "just a game approach" in general and wonder why they can't climb.

as a diamond player who smurfs and has many accs therei can tell you that it is a fiesta. after d4 ofc silver is the hardest elo to climb out of and alot of smurfs will agree with me. from iron to d3 its not about skills but rather learning how to hide the urge to mindlessly kill the first thing you see. silver players rely on luck and instincts to climb which are the worst things to rely on. when silver players get to gold they are more careful not because they learned more about the game but bcz after dying to the same thing countless of times they realized what not to do. the problem is gold players still dont know what to do either so they play really passively.
