I've only been playing this game for 11 months, not even a whole year. I got hooked on this game when i first played it and I still enjoy it today (although not as much before). I agree that matches snowball too hard and damage being too high this preseason but I hope things will change in the future. You veterans have been playing long before me so I'd like to know what the best and most enjoyable season of League was.
The period of S2 through S4 were honestly pretty good. There were some rough points in there, but it was way more enjoyable and hey, juggernauts didn't exist.
In order from best to worst I would say:
Season 2 Season 1 Season 3 Season 4 Season 5 Season 6 Season 7 Preseason 8.
Damage goes progressively higher each season, needless complexity is added while some of the problems that have plagued this game for years remain.

S2, followed closely by S4.
I genuinely don't know why people liked S3. I've mained tanks / tanky fighters my entire league career, and S3 was legitimately burstier than the current season. ADCs would build Last Whisper as their second item and a tank was lucky to last 4 seconds against one.
I'd say 5 as someone who played since early 2.
It sure had some problems but after the overtuned cinderhulk got it's first deserved hit. The Meta and games were glorious! Best games I ever had were back than.
Than someone a riot decideed they need to give champions lane-specific Kits... Juggernauts walked right over the Meta and Fiora over anything left... and it went downhill from there .. and never recovered tbh.
This pre-season is the most fun I have ever had with League. I have been around since season 2.
Besides the current state of the game, my favorite was the cinderhulk meta. So, I believe that would be season 5.
S2 was so much fun imo. However the best season for me was when they finally introduced Team builder.
LoL's peak was at season 2 or 3. I didn't play season 1, but I bet it was even better back then. This game became progressively worse every year. Riot needs to make a classic server badly, but they only care about changing the game constantly and their ridiculous ranked garbage.
S4 for me, might be because I started back then and everything was just new to me. S5 was also great until tank meta started.
Season 4 but tied with the final third of season 5. In both instances, just about everything is viable, in any position with just about any build
For me, it was clearly S2, but S3 and S4 were pretty great aswell, and S5 wasn't to bad, though the existence of Azir and Reworked GP was quite negative for it, and the juggernaut patch was pretty bad.
Season 3 and 4
no season has been perfect, but the golden time frame for most people is season 2-4. with season 2 being the best imo.
For me it was season 5, before Juggernaut update patch came out. It was one of the most fun and stable states of the game imo. Lots of things were viable, tanks , fighters, assasins, adcs, mages. Hell, off meta stuff like Brand jungle was viable. Also the roster was overall pretty balanced. Usually there were between 1 to 3 overpowered picks at a time, that could easily be banned out with 6 bans.
Compare that to now, when we have 10 bans and it feels almost pointless , because you just can't get rid off all the OP shit, too many champions are beyond busted at the same time.
season 4 was best for me. wasnt around for the golden age of season 2 and I was really new in season 3 so I didn't get to enjoy it the way I could have if I were more seasoned
Season 5 to Season 6. Season 7 i improved in but at those times there were less toxic people and less 'Un-fun' builds and champion playstyles.
Season 2 and it's not even close
With no doubt in my mind Season 2/4
2 to 4. You would always ban 
and whatever was strong or annoying in that patch. Times were simpler.
Season 4 is when I started playing and I still remember it as the most fun overall. I miss playing Katarina back when both Zhonya's and Deathfire Grasp gave 120 AP each, tier 3 boots were still a thing, and her base damages hadn't been nerfed into the ground. It's not like nobody could do anything about her. Deathfire Garen would shut her right up. Soraka's old kit was amazing, too! It just seemed like every champion was truer to who they were meant to be back then, and all the nerfs and reworks have muted their unique flavor. And it seemed like you had more options and could be more creative with builds and strategies based on those builds.
For me it was by far S3-S4
I started in Season 2, and I think the best was either Season 3 or 4. It's been a disaster since. I thought Season 7 was the worst possible and for now it's better but as of next patch it'll be worse than S7.
I don't think you'll find anyone who liked S7.
Also it depends on what you mean by best, season 1 was a blast, but it was a blast in a stupid drug trip kinda way. Sunfire stack shacos and twitches, quad/penta madreds Warwick’s, red elixir shaco, release xin, ap rammus, ap yi etc.
Completely unbalanced
Season 3 and Season 4 were the best. These last few patches of Season 8 have been great tho.
season 6 was the golden era of league of legends
when the juggernaut patch came out
I've only played since the beginning of S3 but I'm gonna say S4 because I was a filthy FF abuser
