Xayah and Irelia (and some salt)
Let's start without the salt and without getting me involved.
Looking at Xayah's kit (http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/featured/champion-xayah-rakan-reveal), who thinks she, with some tweaks, could embody "The Will of the Blades (feathers)" better than Irelia?
And then you have this. Forewarning, there is a little salt. These are excerpts from a rework idea for Irelia I wrote a couple of moths ago, compared to Xayah's Kit. Full rework idea: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/n1Z4zzzy-irelia-rework-idea
Xayah passive and Q: >Passive: Clean Cuts >After casting an ability, Xayah's next few basic attacks will pierce through all enemies in their path (dealing reduced damage to all targets after the first). >They'll also leave a feather where they land. Feathers remain on the field for a moderate length of time. >Q: Double Daggers >Xayah throws two blades in a line, damaging all enemies hit. The knives leave a feather where they land.
Irelia reworked passive and W >Pasive: >Part Two: Will of the Blades >Irelia is constantly surrounded by four blades (basically the first, passive part of her ult is now her passive). These blades are used for Irelia’s abilities (see >ability details). They are also used for her autoattacks (not consumed by, see full idea for clarification) >W: Blade Storm (Xayah's R is feather storm) >Irelia fires out a blade in a straight line, dealing damage and healing herself for a portion of the damage dealt. Basically, it’s the second, active part of her >ult but it does less damage and heals less because it’s available more often. It also still works with Trinity Force. Blades fired will lodge into the ground at >the end of their travel or into the first enemy champion/large monster struck (so she can still heal off minions and so minions don’t completely wreck her >shit)(might be weird fighting in >JG, but I want her to still be able to JG; see beginning for why).
Xayah E: >E: Bladecaller (BTW, totally stealing the name of this one >Xayah recalls all feathers, which deal damage to any enemies they strike on the way back to Xayah. If a target is struck by several feathers at once, they'll >be briefly rooted.
Irelia reworked E: >E: Blade’s Equilibrium (I'm terrible with names) >Irelia recalls all blades. Enemies with blades stuck in them will take damage based on the number of blades removed. Further, enemies with blades stuck >in them will be slowed or stunned. Which one occurs will be based on the same mechanic currently in place. If Irelia has a higher % of her health, it’s a >slow. If she has a lower %, it’s a stun. The duration of either depends on the # of blades removed.
Xayah R: >R: Featherstorm >Xayah leaps into the air, becoming briefly untargetable. After a short delay, she hurls a storm of blades in a cone, each of which deals damage to struck >enemies and leaves a feather upon landing. Xayah may continue to move while airborne.
Irelia rework R (definitely the most different by far): >R: Blade’s Release >Irelia spins he currently held blades around in a circle, blocking all damage and projectiles for the next X seconds (think windwall/riposte/braum shield). >After, they push out in a formation around Irelia (straight in front for one, sides for two, triangle with one straight back for three, and an X centered on >Irelia for four). Enemies hit are knocked back and take damage. Think Gragas ult centered on her, with a bit more damage (barring AP Gragas) >Basically, it’s her taunt (or whatever emote it is), except it actually does something.
So yeah, I'm a little salty. #HOWEVER I have no idea how long Riot was working on these champion's kits There are definitely differences, ranged v. melee being a huge one. There last ability (Irelia Q, left untouched in my rework idea, and Xayah W) makes the rest of the kit work together differently, as do the small details.
And, moving past that salt, it is gratifying to see ideas I came up with as an individual used by Riot. Even if Riot had them individually, it stills gives credibility to my ideas, at least to some degree.
is a better fit for Irelia's background lore than she is?
