Will support ever be an in-demand role?

I remember when I first started League, I always wanted to play mid the most. But that is the most picked role. Support was the least. So since all I wanted to do was play the game, I started maining support. When the new marksman update occured, that was a pretty tough role to get for a while. But now that's kinda died off. What are some something that can be done to make support more appealing as other roles? Better champions? Gameplay update to seem make them have more of an impact? Cooler items?

Supports need a way to get more gold and experience.

Realistically, probably not. Even in games like HotS where everyone on a team always has exactly the same power level, supports are less popular than other champions. It's always been the same with priests and supportive classes in MMOs too. At the end of the day, people like to kill things themselves.

im glad nobody else likes playing support. makes my team builder queue time less than 5 seconds and if the team comp is shit i can dodge and get a new one in 5 seconds.

supports are fine as they are, all they need is for riot to come up with a way that give them gold efeciently, without other lanes abusing it. that is the problem riot has been working on for ages, that and support gold out- ie ward changes.

Support is a lot more popular and wanted now than it was in S3 and earlier. It tends to be more demanded as you climb in elo, I noticed. I could get it all the time in placement and in gold but once I hit plat I had troubles getting it.

I love supporting, I consider myself a support main. It is a very thankless job though. Less gold less xp, people for the most part just don't get the impact. I have played so many games as a support that I legit carried, but no one will acknowledge it. I had a game as nami a pretty long time ago where I went 7/0/43. Still though it was not acknowledged and I remember in that game I had threats to be reported because I "stole kills". I think support seems to be lacking for that exact reason. No matter how good you do, you are like the little kid on the team. Those of us that stick it out though are rewarded above all other roles.

I think support is one of the funner roles to play and never back down from supporting if im bound to. There are multiple ways for supports to be relevant in a game. Be it through vision supporting, making pick plays or or just saving teammates over and over with incredible peeling.

There is nothing i find more amusing than playing bard.

Minigames IMO (like bard TK etc)

I think it's because a lot of people would rather be in a solo lane instead of relying on another person in solo que. While ADCs are on and off with popularity, they are a little bit less stressful when playing solo que. ADCs just has to farm, play safe and follow up on a teammates initiation. Supports have to either initiate a fight, or sit back and baby their adc's and make sure they don't die.

A bad support isn't the end of a lane, you could just let them know you want to play passive and farm and they should just sit back and only counter-initiate if needed. However, if you are a support with a bad ADC, your lane is gone and that could translate to the end of the game with how snowbally the games are atm.

Personally, I don't think supports really need anything to make them more popular...I just think the community itself is why supports aren't as popular...And it shows it since the higher level elo's people said that supports are pretty popular, so it's just the lower elo...which is most likely the most toxic elos to be in.

there's literally nothing that can be done

as long as cod kiddies exist that feel kda is the most important thing in determining skill/most fun thing to do, it'll always be this way

This is Disruptor, he's one of my favorite supports to play in dota. Here is my reason why:

He has an amazing kit that makes it seem like you're not actually a support character (a mini victor ult, an ekko ult for enemies, a veigar stun, and an aoe silence). RIOT should have more champs like this for people who don't normally play support. Even though Disruptor is classified as a support it feels like I have the kit of a mid lane carry at my disposal.

Also, he has a 29 cent skin that lets him ride the dinosaur you see above. That also makes him pretty cool, imo.

Oddly enough recently in Bronze there has been a lot of times where I couldn't get support, because there was another in team.

Only if they just get rid of sightstone and buff trinkets or something like that, so that supports can actually spend their gold the way every other champion gets to.

Right now I think support might actually be 3rd for me in preference ahead of ADC and jungle. Solo lanes will always be my preference though.
