Or at least % of the dmg from the ranged autoattacks/ abilities . There is no reason for taking Dorans shield atm (cloth 5 or flask is a better defense/sustain start). Only Shen or Garen take Dorans, because of no mana management
R1101 votesI don't think giving it % damage block is a good idea because it's supposed to be a strong early game item and shouldn't scale very well into the late game, flat damage reduction reflects that. If it were to receive % damage reduction, it would have to block less than 8 damage early in the game but that is the moment where you try to gain the most advantage out of it.
I do think there are reasons to buy Dorans shield because 8 damage reduction from autoattacks and single target skills is huge because it happens after the damage reduction from armor/mr. It's pretty good against ranged AP champions with single target abilities where a cloth armor would be less benificial.

BeatzBoyFTW1 votesWe buy Doran Shield is mostly because of that very early lane poke blocks, plus that extra HP regeneration needed for lane sustain. And to also point out? **Doran Shield is not a free 
** You still have play as cautious as games where you buy 
, not by not giving a fk about your range lane opponent & let him poke you as much as he wants. That part is your fault, not the DS build.

- Built for good mana sustain in lane. (Best for AP champs)
- For good early game offensive sustain through auto-attacks. (Best for auto-attack focused champs, eg. ADC or Pantheon)
- For early game bonus HP regeneration & early game tankiness pre-6. (Best for tank champs)
Every Dorans has its own pros & cons, just that all of them dont work the same way they should be doing. It requires different playstyle for certain champions for certain Doran builds.
