riot killed our good old friend Zilean

*/!\ IMPORTANT /!* first of all i want to apologize if my english is really bad but it isn't my primary language

if you click this link you will see a chart that clearly show that ZileanZilean is one of the least played champions. and the reason why i tell this is the following: not all non-skill-shot abilities should become skill-shots. Zilean was way funnier when it was just like press 3 buttons and turn around, and wait for the kill to come. and honestly what you should have reworked was his passive not his q. it didn't gave him more mechanics, it didn't increased his win rate. all it did was made him underplayed, boring and more support and less ''support''. so plz riot just give us back the old good Zilean . this fellow have literally been bullied by the community saying he was bad and troll pick and blah blah blah, and when he finally got out of that. you nerfed his passive and reworked his q. you should make songs for him instead of Amumu who always have the highest winrate.

I think that the Q changes are an overall improvement. The old time bombs had no counterplay and didn't provide valuable CC.

New Zilean's real problems are his:

  1. Boring, non-thematic, zero-gameplay passive. It adds nothing to Zilean besides a few seconds of level advantage. My main gripe about it is that its benefit is doubled for support Zilean— Zilean is the only benefactor (during early-mid game, at least) when he goes mid.

  2. Lack of a W. Zilean's W is nothing more than a gating mechanism for his Q and E. It adds very little to his thematics (especially now that it doesn't affect Chronoshift), and it doesn't provide any gameplay mechanics that couldn't be attached to his Q and E (ex: two-charge system for double-bombing). Zilean has no W; he just has manipulable cooldowns on his E and Q. Personally, I'd like to see Zilean given a new way to apply damage to his opponents with his W (so he won't be so reliant on his now-unreliable bombs).

  3. Severely nerfed E. Zilean's new E is extremely lackluster compared to his old ones. The new % speed boost/slow is deceptive because movement speed has soft caps. http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Movement_speed Zilean's speed boost/slow is effectively far less potent than the tooltip would suggest. Not to mention that Riot removed one of the most fun aspects of Zilean when they nerfed his E's duration— permanently speed boosting yourself. Old Zilean could fly around Summoner's Rift at extremely high speeds as long as he could maintain the mana costs (which used to be far more manageable before the nerfs to Athene's Unholy Grail and the % base mana regeneration nerfs/changes). I agree that Zilean would be problematic with a perma-slow on his E, but I am convinced that he should be able to keep himself speed-boosted for as long as he can maintain his mana pool (not very long, due to the aforementioned mana regen nerfs).

Riot was like "what the fun to click and do damage?point and click no counterplay was unfun"

meanwhile "what the fun to try to hit my enemies with a hilarous skillshot"?

Here is my take on things that could be improved and fun: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/dYBervck-ok-new-zilean-idea

I have always picked Zilean mostly cause of the Theme I wont lie. His kit is really cool but not consistent enough and less now that his Q is a skillshot though I don't disagree with the change.

His strength should be battle control (revive who is focused, lock who is running, help chase who is chasing, zone control with his bombs) his weakness is that he is not as mobile as someone with dashes on their kit and pretty squishy so if locked down and focused he is done for really quick and that is ok, he should be at a distance doing his control thing.

Anyways I do hope he gets a bit more love he does need it.

I think Riot has a thing against mages because they gave the same treatment to Ryze and Viegar and just left them at low win rates so their popularity would drop to "never see them" levels. And now they add insult to injury by nerfing the viability of the low support masteries line which mages really needed to be viable.

I get the impression that Riot hopes these mages will be out of sight, therefore out of mind...

Zilean is actually sitting at around 50% Win Rate in Plat+ if you take a look at it.

Have you tried hitting your Q?
It might help ;)
(P.s.: You do not need to hit both Qs on an ever-moving champion to get the stun. Just throw both on a still minion next to them and you'll get it)

to everyone that say that it increase counterplayability: Annie and XinZhao fuk!

That is one view.

The other view is that Zilean before had no counterplay other than "Stay out of my range or get hit by two nukes". It was an issue with his gameplay and needed to be fixed (come on... wasn't he banned in 90% of games at worlds). He needed a change to give him extra counterplay and the only thing they could do (without changing everything) was change the bombs to a skillshot. They aren't good enough yet, but I don't view that as a problem with the rework but with the execution of the rework.

If I remember rightly, a lot of people liked the rework on paper. If only those bombs weren't so god damned difficult to land.
