We are not going to receive compensations from the rune update

Long time ago, when DDOS was destroying matches for a long time Riot said they were working in a compensation to the players but that would not discuss or give right away as they were working in solutions to the problem.

Compensation never came.

Very close to that time league of legends Br was experiencing some deep problems with the server stopping over and over and the same promise was made. As soon as they finished solving the problem a compensation would be distributed to the players.

Compensation never came.

Riot remade the entire Honor system after realizing it was not working as intended and said it would have something prepared to people that used the older Honor system. New Honor system is being deployed tomorrow.

All your old stats are gone with no influence over the new one.

Old rune system will be gone, new rune system will arrive. Following the pattern they will just ship it and pretend will do something later until people forget.

...or not?

Riot did a lot of cool stuff recently. List include sand box system (although you cant play with someone else), Ward ping, Honor rework, Lee sin nerfs and more.

I think that this thread could be a cool way to Riot talk to the community about what are their plans to the future.

Will riot do what promise or not?

EDIT:They also promised the return from tribunal, what never happened. EDIT2: Super low blow what happened to the honor system taking into consideration some feedback i got from some players.

Most baity post I ever read. Thought it was gonna be a QQ thread but then you flipped the script 180. Although tbh by making the thread seem so toxic towards Riot at first, you basically denied them from reading this post. They'll likely just ignore any post that's title basically says, "rito lies to us bad company."

Well if you'd like to strengthen your argument I'd recommend linking the examples where they promised compensation. For the more recent ways like the Honor System, it may be too soon to say it's not being compensated.

It's OK, the idea is just to have a healthy discussion about previous promises and now. I'm totally fine with they just taking time to work on stuff.

LoL is a product, whether it requires payment or not really doesn't matter because the game is not being published out of the goodness of their heart. The "free content" is only free because someone paid for it, even if you personally spent 0$ some other group of players paid for you.

I've only spent about 900$ or so, not really much given I played before S1. I would've spent much more paying for a sub even at just 15$ a month.

A free game with an intentional choke point for you to either grind for literal years (I know, I did it before you kids got half xp to get to 30) to get runes/champions, or spend money.

A free game with a gambling system that tries to bribe you into spending money "here have some free stuff. Ya know...you'd get more of this stuff if you paid :O"

Also it is "their game" not "there game". Unless said game involves you pointing at different things and saying "there!"...the game.

I do like your second point. Whenever someone would complain about not enough keys, chest, or the low droprate of gems, the fanboy kids always say "stop complaining its free stuff" ignoring the fact that Riot wouldn't give out free stuff if it didn't in some way benefit them. But I guess expecting millennials to understand economics is just plain silly on my part.

It doesn't benefit them for me.

I've gotten 3 legendary and multiple 975s.

I haven't spent a single dollar on chests or keys.

So I'm still going to say "stop complaining it's free stuff" because if your to weak to control you wallet it doesn't make it any less free.

Lols you're completely missing the point, just because YOU get the free stuff and don't buy anything doesn't mean others don't. It wouldn't even matter if MOST players don't buy skins because of the hextech system, as long as some people do. They wouldn't do it if it didn't tempt SOME people into buying skins.

Again, they wouldn't do it if i didn't benefit them. They are a company, not a charity. Other people are paying for your free stuff, otherwise they wouldn't do it. Do drug dealers give free drugs because they are such nice people? No, they want to get you hooked. That's off course the most extreme example, but the principle is the same, even if this isn't nearly as insidious.

Most free to play company's rely on less than 5% of their player base.

They are called whales.

So this is aimed to make whales spend more money. But for the other 95% of players it's free.

Of course they had ulterior motives.

God do i love blizzard for how they just give you boxes for free every level in hots and even if riot didn' want to give as many boxes for free they could atleast copy things like different announcers to buyor get in boxes. I want my GP announcer back.

I agree. The only thing that annoys me is the abathur annoucer for some reason is double the price of every single other announcer. And it's the only one I want.

there is absolutely no way they are going to remove runes without giving compensation.

all the other things you listed was either badluck or stupidity

runes though represents TIME, EFFORT, and most importantly, hard physical currency. they HAVE to give us something. otherwise they are going to have alot of very unhappy people

I'd be pretty pissed of considering back in the day i bought some IP boosts and rune pages for real money. Just getting it scrapped and all i invested over 6 years vanish into nothingness would be a pretty huge bitch move.

One of the rioters, hippo something, also promised a reward for people who bought a lot of rp. He kept saying "soon" or "almost done" then all of a sudden he was like nvm and we never got them lmao.

That was completely separate from the lifetime rp rewards. They gave you Halloween icons depending on how much rp you bought during October and November.

the difference here I think, is that in the example you supply, the promise was to compensate players for basically not enjoying the game / wasted time.

The upcoming promise of compensation comes from the fact, that a large number of players have purchased rune pages with RP, as well as possibly spent RP to acquire IP boosts to buy runes for said rune pages. People are going to literally lose something that they spent real money on, not just their time. This is why I think riot will make good on their promise this time around.

Didn't they also promise the return of the Tribunal at some point?

I'm not sure if Riot scrapped it, or if they were trying to put in in the new client. But I wish Riot would have mentioned something about it. (It's been Years)

I long ago lost track of how much IP I've spent on runes. I have like 95% of all the runes (some I just bought cause I was sitting on like 40k ip and had nothing else to spend it on to be fair).

Doubt it, would screw over players who have every champion, or basically everyone but a few.

i honestly think the people who have both alot of runes and every champ are in the minority

I'm missing about 25 champs, about half of which are in the 4800 or lower brackets, and ive been playing since S1

granted ive taken multiple 6+ month long breaks in the mean time

Obviously its a minority, but its still a significant amount; League of Legends is a very big game so the minority is a few million players.

Can't just screw over people because theres less of them.

does anybody remember the project shards and such? riot said ''they will be removed after X weeks but you will be compensated!'' and then it turns out 1 shard equals 1 orange essence like LOL

I'm pretty sure they are gonna give compensation. They do have something planned, since, If you've ever grinded the game enough to put 300k ip into runes (I know I have) It's literally more than half a year of your life.

All of the things you mentioned above are not even close to how much IP was sink for buying runes. There is absolutely no way we dont get compensation. Trust me you are getting compensation.

The real questions is what are we going to do with the IP in the future. I have already 20K IP and nothing interesting to buy with them.

Tribunal is returning. I guess it's technically in beta. It's called "The Verdict" and it takes place here on the Boards. Though, because it's on the Boards, it'll usually require some searching because it depends on upvotes to be really visible. Not sure if that'll be how it stays for good tho.
