@Riot Garen 5.16 Feedback thread
I have been playing the new Garen consistently. Here's a few of my thoughts.
I don't feel he's as solid anymore without building crit or building 3-4 offensive items. That's a good thing. I don't feel semi-tanky Garen is as viable as DPS Crit Garen right now. Some pros like Pants are Dragon said that the only offensive item on Garen should be black cleaver, I disagree very strongly that makes him feel just as weak as he was before with the occasional True Ult damage. Its a good thing you are pushing him towards more DPS oriented roles and I really enjoy that because it actually feels scary getting to a late game Garen. As it is right now, late game DPS Garen is fucking scary, seriously. The only problem with him right now is how hard he gets kited in team fights and which is something I know Riot mentioned it was aiming for but at the same time I do feel he lacks a bit too much of "getting in the fight mechanics" because his only reliable way to kill someone is still Flash -> Q -> E -> Ult. With his Q's duration and Silence nerfed, I feel it does hurt him a lot getting to his intended target. To be fair I don't feel like he can be played as a Tank or even a Tanky Bruiser anymore. He's more of a late game Riven with similar role and less Mobility. The only thing which feels out of place in his kit is W, I don't enjoy the abyssmal 30 Ar/Mr late game tbh.
Some of the changes I would recommend are:
1.) Changing his Courage to have infinite scaling but have a very low rating on it per minion killed, something like Garen gains 0.2 Ar/Mr when he kills a minion or a champion. That means you need to farm 300, 200 and 100 minions to get 60 Ar/Mr, 40 Ar/Mr, 20 Ar/Mr.
I feel it allows him to scale more decently into late game and focus more on DPS.
2.) Reverting his Q's silence Duration back to 3 seconds
