Placement matches a waste?

Hello,

I think it would be nice if Riot would allow us to opt out of placement matches. Why can't I keep my rank from the previous season? What is the harm in doing this?

Before this coming season I was merrily on my way to S1 (really high I know) with probably about an 70-80% win rate.

Enter placement matches...10 games that 90% of the time only hurt you. Preseason 5 I went 9/1 in my placements and got placed in s2 from s3...BIG improvement. Because of the defeating purpose of the placements I tend not to particularly care because I know even if I'm 10/0, my rank might go up 1 division, not really the best carrot.

Some people may really enjoy it and they should also be given the opportunity to improve their rank in placements. I just feel it causes so much chaos in the beginning of the season...it's just a mess. Plats and Diamonds dropping ranks so most games are just thrashings (for both sides)

I did not really play in S5, but some of my best matches, competitively and teammate wise were in the last month or two because I was playing with people around the same skill level. At that point (towards the end) most of the divisions have evened out and everyone is approximately where they should be...then placements come along to shuffle the deck again.

I'm not complaining but in the light of improving the game in general, this system needs an overhaul or at least an opt out function.

Seems smart by Riot. Drop every to a level they know they are better than, so they are forced to grind out games to get back to that level. They want people playing, they want the new season to be popular.

It's because towards the end of the season, you're stuck with people who don't have the knowledge or skill to get past where they are. So if you wanted to climb, you are required to carry the dead weight. The reset allows everybody to move down and spread the elos out, so Silver isn't just stagnant Silver players, but Gold and even some Plat. You have a greater chance of moving up if you're supposed to early on than later because you have this diversity as well as showing that you deserve the rank you previously had.
