What ever happened to the Tribute to Grez?

Grez

Title says it all.

(For those of you who didn't know, Grez was the first to refer 1000 friends, he had a tribute as a monster, when it got removed Grez got an item which was the lantern on Twisted Treeline, until it got removed in an update.)

I hate ho Riot wants to homogenize game modes.

Like what's the reason behind removing TT's "IE" made out of cheap items and replacing it with SR's IE made out of a fucking BF Sword? The answer is: None.

Atanchan30 votes

Y'do realize that they explain this stuff during the patch notes, right?

Vistha Kai6 votes

Which explanations make no sense most of the time.

For what it's worth I play TT quite regularly. There are champions who have "IE" as their core item, but due to the fact they have to sit on gold until they are able to get BF, it's feels completely awful to play them unless you get a huge lead.

Before you could get the "equivalent" of current's IE's BF, going back 3 times every time you saved 400 gold.

Riot doesn't understand that TT is too fast-paced for bullshit changes like that.

They did it because in ranked 3v3s, Marksmen were becoming too dominant. It is supposed to be a nerf for them.

Saianna5 votes

The thing is...

Marksmen are too dominant EVERYWHERE.

If you were to throw a stone in just ANY direction you'd definitely hit some ADC in the head. This game feels waaay too overloaded with ADCs..

True enough

DeathBot66617 votes

I disagree. This game is WAY to overloaded with minions.

They're always played in every game, have a presence in every lane, have way too short a respawn time, and if left unchecked will mob up and level towers. And what's worse is that there is only one melee, and 1 ranged. Plus all they can buy is a car and a rumble suit, so it's always the same every game. There needs to be more variety in the creep department.

But shurima killed all of them in Ascension (never 4gt minion genocide)

Vistha Kai3 votes

And what kind of dominance were they talking about?

Because it's a mode where champions can have 70% winrate, not because of items, but because it's 3v3 and only 3v3.

Also in all those years I've been playing Twisted Treeline, I saw like literally 2 games where an ADC was of any value.

If Riot would want to balance TT in any shape or form, they'd have to rebalance every champion for a 3v3 environment and Riot will sooner make Twisted Treeline a FGM than balance it.

Dr Poro2 votes

But they added the items back in the days before there were 3 turrets per lane when bruiser champions dominated this map. The item was supposed to help out the weaker ADCs. It's no longer needed so they went back to default. It's not like they're tightly balancing the map.

There is no reason to have different items in different maps if it increases imbalance rather than decreasing it.

Vistha Kai1 votes

Mind you "bruisers" are still dominating the map.

Top champions on TT consist of Darius, Maokai, Trundle, Zac, Yasuo, Poppy, Gnar.

The only outliner is Graves having the second highest pickrate, but can we even call him "ADC" at this point? There's also Lucian skulking around 20th pick.

At the same time, both lowest pickrate and winrate top 10 consist mostly of... ADCs.

Again, I can't see this whole "ADC dominance" thing on TT. You pick a bruiser, pretty much any bruiser and the ADC dies. Especially if they picked more than one, because then there is nobody to peel them for.

The generally accepted meta team compositions on Twisted Treeline:

  • A solo top laner, a jungler, and a solo bottom laner. The top laner's champion pool is very similar to the Summoner's Rift top lane champion pool: skirmishers, vanguards, wardens, juggernauts, divers, and some assassins. Mages are generally not brought top. The highest tier junglers are vanguards, though divers and a few other subgroups of champions work as well. The bottom laner is generally some kind of mage, with some other picks like Gnar, Yasuo, or Rumble as well.

  • A duo marksman/support top lane and a solo bottom laner. The viable marksmen include most of the viable SR bottom laners and the viable support pool is mostly tanks. Supports such as Bard, Annie, and Karma are also played, but this class of supports is much more limited than the tank class. The bottom laner champion pool is the same.

  • A duo bruiser with smite/warden support top and a solo bottom laner. The top two supports for this strategy are Braum and Maokai, since they are good at giving their top laner the ability to stick to his or her targets. The bottom champion pool is almost the same, except in this case the bottom laner must be ranged because the team lacks range otherwise.

The only time there would be more than one marksman on a team would be in the case of a Graves/Corki bottom lane with a marksman/support top lane, or a Graves/Kindred jungle with a Corki bottom lane. Most other marksmen just don't fit in other roles in Twisted Treeline very well.

In short:

An average team in TT has no ADC and as far as I know didn't have for the past 2 years either.

My only loss on TT this season was to an AFK and his premade feeder on my team.

Of course the game lasted for 26 minutes, the guy was AFKing for 20 and his 2/9/1 premade refused to surrender, because "he's logging in already".

Breaku1 votes

Oh, I try not to play normals these days.

Less of that in ranked.

Vistha Kai1 votes

I mean, you are making the group for ranked, so it'd be pretty weird for people to go AFK and not surrender when asked.

Juggernauts were dominate

A Liberal2 votes

This has nothing to do with a tribute content?

Vistha Kai1 votes

Replacing map-specific items or removing them.

What's the difference?

A Liberal2 votes

The original topic was the removal of two forms of recognition for a person who won a promotion, and no replacement. What you are complaining about is an item rework that was made for balance reasons. These are literally two completely different situations, and for you to use the removal of Grez the lizard and Grez's Spectral Lantern as a soapbox to complain about a nerf to marksman items on Twisted Treeline.

Riot doesn't care about refer a friend sadly, anymore. I mean TotalBiscuit got enough people "recruited" years ago that he was supposed to go to the studios to help design a champion.

They never contacted him, basically ignored him for years, and I think he finally got a token "tour of the offices" offer, and that was it.

Sadly the current Riot isn't the same as the 2013 time Riot that was very community driven. It is filled with low to mid 20s guys memeing half the day and trying to change for the sake of change (IE all of 2016).

crippler381 votes

pretty sure our little biscuit gave it away to make a wish.

toravi1 votes

Yeah he did and they gave it to a guy and they actually designed a champion and everything. The leaguer/youtuber that goes by Jeremy had him in a video.

Iesbian2 votes

Yeah, 4 years later.

Matter of the fact is that Riot DIDN'T and still DOESN'T care about the people that did the refer-a-friend and met the highest requirements.

Xonra1 votes

Did this happen super recently? He ranted about it for at least 3 years that I was paying attention to him (I stopped eventually paying attention). He full on started his bias and anger towards Riot because of it (seriously he said so many times he wanted to play LoL but refused because Riot "Screwed him out of his referral prize" etc etc.

Stexe1 votes

I was wondering about this too... I talked to him years ago and they did screw him out of some of his referral rewards. Surprised they don't have something named "Grez" in the game.

I know they have a backlog of "names" to include due to so many referrals, but you'd think that the biggest ones that still aren't in the game would be top of the list?
