We can always hope that this is a sign that Riot is starting to make mobility more costly in the champion's power budget instead of letting it remain a free boon to everyone that has it.

thats exactly what it is

kassadin got nerfed and gutted over and over and there was no such patch in which he would be ballanced, either he completly sucked cause he had no damage or her stole some kills and pwned hard like old style kassa would

thats why they gut his ult finaly, they acknowledged that his ult breaks his ballance, so they will nerf it and give him strenghts and weaknesses in other areas

owerall he will become a diferent champion but its probably for the better

I think you're misunderstanding me. Mobility is an asset to every champion that has it, while immobility is a detriment. Riot has never truly balanced champions around their mobility; immobile champions are not proportionately more powerful (in terms of damage, CC, etc.) when compared to mobile champions (who get all the things immobile champs have + mobility).

I'm saying that all mobile champions could be taken down a peg for having their mobility (then rebalanced, in the cases of already-weak mobile champions), or that all immobile champions could be buffed to make them comparable in total power to mobile champions (then rebalanced, in the cases of already-strong immobile champions).

I agree that Kassadin isn't at his best right now, let alone after that nerf, but I think he could withstand a mild nerf if all other mobile champions were also given mild nerfs to compensate for the fact that they can jump over walls or simply out-speed immobile champions. He could be given a compensation buff later, if he actually needs it, but most mobile champions could use a nerf to keep them in line with immobile champions.
