balancing maokai

pretty sure you guys know Maokai is super strong atm and i thought of a way to balance him. so as you may know already Maokai is strong because of his aoe ult that gives dmg reduction and makes him and some allies almost unkillable but his ult cannot be turned off or on unless he 1. runs out of mana or 2. he stops the channel himself so my thought on this is why not make it so his ult can be silenced like most channel spells and abilities for instance if he ults and in a teamfight hes silenced his ult will still go off and do stored dmg but the channel will stop give me your thoughts on this :D

Counter too hard. Giving silence champions a way to completely destroy him while not giving anyone else an answer to him just means he'll be useless in games with a silence champion and still strong as hell in games that don't. The problem is that if someone picked a silence to counter Maokai, I can't pick anything to mitigate the effect of that silence to help keep Maokai strong. League doesn't work well as a game with counterpicks that strong, and this would be one of the strongest counters in the game. This is more of a DOTA-style balance option, and it would work well there.
