It is only the same as LAST year.
In 2014 (as I was playing then) you could go UP with the same placement record as you go DOWN currently. If you go 7/3 or 8/2 today, you go down at the very least, one division regardless of if you go 10/0.
In 2014 Multiple people (it was a well known fact so no need to go listing examples) went up, like from ending silver 4 and going 8/2 and going up to silver 1 or even gold 5 (yes that much, it was a bit silly in some cases). This is why it is like it is as of 2015 because they (Riot) didn't like that (understandably so), and the "soft reset" became a bit less soft.
So while it might not be new from 2015 placements, it isn't as if it has always been that way, regardless of how smug and smartass you try to be :P. Not everyone has played long enough to know that from last year. They'd have to have played since at least the end (before preseason) of 2014 in ranked, and had a rank then, to even know it was a thing last year.

This complaint literally pops up EVERY year. I don't get why people are surprised.
BTW, OP is acting like he's a multi-season veteran when in reality this is his first ranked season and by the looks of things he is gonna end up in the lower echelon of bronze.
Except at the start of Season 5 I went 4-6 and got Silver II (from Gold IV) and now I go 7-3 and also get Silver II even though I was Plat V. I don't have a problem with that but it is definitely a harder reset than last year.
Actually I wouldn't mind if we stayed at the same rank indefinitely and we didn't have to do placements. I wouldn't have to play ranked ever again.
Going 6-4 in placement and from Plat 4 to Silver 2 is delicious
Well, last season I actually went up a division with the placement games (Silv5 in S4 -> Silv4 in S5)

I was somewhere around 1200-1300 mmr S3 last season. Won 7 of my placement games.... and got placed in B3 with people who only won 2 or 3 placement games...... explain that?
if riot just called it a hard reset it'd prolly be easier to take.....people keep claiming "oh it must be your MMR that dropped you" but damn...if you earned your way to your rank then wtf? shouldn't have to go thru hell all over again.
It might not be anything new to you and you might be ok with the system in place, however, people are complaining because the system is unfair and we want change.

I've been playing since season 1, and the algorithm they use to calculate your "MMR" changes along with all the changes they implement each season. So mathematically speaking it's never calculated the same every season cause they're always adding/tweaking objectives, changing there values etc. Season 3 was by far the best season, season two ended w/ Gold 1 after reset landed plat 3. Season four ended w/ plat 2, season five started silver 1. Season five ended gold 2, and placed in bronze 1.
Went from Gold to Bronze in this seasons placement... I think that is just a bit ridiculous. All the matches Ive played in Bronze have had people who were also gold last season.

Ranked reset means you get to play those solo que stompy champs for a few games like Amumu and Tryndamere. :D
i dont understand why they don't allow placing above platinum 1? It's not surprising most people get placed much lower than expected...challengers are getting placed in plat 1 so yeah the actual plat 1s must be placed low plat...low plats in gold ?
i was plat 5 100 LP before placements...now i can't even queue with my plat 3 friend for placements (we usually play ranked together and are similar skill-wise)...it tells me i must queue with someone between bronze and gold...so you're telling me i dropped from plat 5 100 LP to silver in less than 10 games...?

So what if you wait a few months before doing ranked when everyone is done climbing. Will that aid in reducing the hell that is the hard reset? Was a S3. I'll hold off on ranked for a bit.
