How the F do you build Bard

I have heard many different complaints about Bard but one of my biggest criticisms is that very few if any items make sense on his kit. The scalings on his abilities are garbage and can't tank like Leona or Thresh can. It feels like Riot tried to do so much with his design yet had no idea what his actual purpose in a team is.

Bards only relevance in a game is between lvl 1 and 3 when his w and q aren't trash yet and the Bard isn't roaming, to collect chimes, to get to mid and late game, so he can cast pointless tunnels and ults, while providing nothing useful to actually kill targets or keep his team alive.

He should either get some tankier defensive stats or make W provide a shield, OR increase the power and ratios of his Q and W.

The first step is to pick a different Support.

he's a pure support so get item with affect that can help your teammate or hinder enemy team.

Use talisman and righteous glory for engage/disengage. Crucible and locket help keep your carry alive in fights. Mobi's and Zz'Rot to speed up your rotations and make pushing towers faster. Of course you have to drop one of the items for a sightstone, just drop whichever doesn't fit in with what your team needs (or if you suck at remembering actives in fights drop mikaels)

You kind of have to build 100% utility as no stats really benefit bard at all. This would definitely be the items I go for.

I believe that they shouldnt have released bard, at least in his current state. He is one of the only supp champs that does not receive benefits from non utility items. They sacrificed the ability to heal/do damage for the sake of utility. Ao Shin had a better kit and those were just rough ideas. Is it bad to say that bard needs a rework? There is obviously problems in his design if they have to overbuff him to tomorrow to make him viable against other supports.

Let me clarify, yes he can heal and does damage, but his kit is focused on the utility.
